Vin decode help please
Can anyone decode this VIN for me? I found an online VIN decoder that said this was a 64-67 911 but that was about all it said. Is there anything else anyone can add? like what model this is? The VIN is 458703
Thanks!

This car is for sale locally, and I am trying to determine what is worth. It has been modified, but I saw that the car was a Karmann bodied coupe. The original engine is long gone but is the Karmann body desirable? I am not familiar with the earlier cars at all. It has rear flares added, it has a wide body look. It was front dated to a mid year look in the rear at some point. I have not seen it in person yet. It appears to have some very valuable wheels and other things on it. Kind of funny for a 912.

Don't know what you are looking for in an early car, but from the bit you describe, this one doesn't sound too appealing. It is a short wheel base 912 long hood that has been bastardized to look like a long wheel base, wide bodied middie 911. The original engine is gone.
The real value in the early cars is in originality and condition. Without seeing the extent of the "make over" or knowing the overall condition as well as not knowing what you want in an early car, a valuation is difficult but, regardless, the market for such a car is small. Being a Karmann coupe is nothing special--in fact, some urban legends deride the Karmann cars. Do you know what's special about the wheels? That's probably the most interesting thing about the car, as far as I can tell.
