I replaced the original ones in my 89 Coupe this summer with Bilstein HD's in the front and Bilstein Sports in the rear...
It seemed to be the general consensus on this forum and i believe it was a good choice because it improved the handling and gave me peace of mind. The Boge inserts i removed were completely toasted..... Our host sells everything you need ![]() Phil

I just replaced my original Boge's with Bilstein HD's all the way around because right front shock insert was broken. The HD's are a little stiffer than Boges, but honestly, I can't tell too much difference in the driving of the car. Either the originals were still in pretty good shape (despite the break), or I'm an insensitive clod
![]() I do like knowing the shocks are good quality and new, however, so it's worth it for that alone. The car must be sitting a bit higher too, because I don't scrape getting out of my driveway anymore. So, I'm pleased with the Bilsteins, and the install wasn't very difficult. I was thinking of going Sport all around as well but most of the "knowledgeable" suspension
gurus on this Forum recommended HD's in front ! I think you will be happy with HD's and Sports, maybe somebody will chime in and give a logical explanation as to why ... Had i known earlier this Summer that i would be stuffing "oversized"17 inch tires on Fikse wheels this Winter i might have gone with stiffer Sport shocks in the front ,but now i guess i will have to go with stiffer torsion bars and lots of - camber ... Oh well... lol Phil

I second the question. What's the intended use? Occasional street, long trips, pure track, street with occasional DE? It all makes a difference.

AND the shocks MUST be matched to the spring rate of the torsion bars
so what are they? |
