Fantastic car! Were the early badges just painted brass?

Could a Bart H. get an Abarth steering wheel if he wanted one?

Sweet, Shaun! I love that phrase, "temporary perfection". I feel like that every time I clean and detail the 911. Last time was about a year ago... 30 seconds down the road and it's gone.

Thanks everyone, man I just love this car. I left yesterday morning for NYC, had a great day, came back, not a hiccup. Drives beautifully and I wouldn't change a thing...for now.

What was next on the car is being shelved: SC rear quarters and RS quarter bumpers. I think I'm going to clean up the quarter bumpers, epoxy prime and put away for a while or use for another car. The clean narrow lines of this car really work.

What has to be next is seats and as soon as Stefan (GTS) comes out with a new ST variation (I think next week), I'll make a decision on those. Unfortunately I won't have them when I take the car to Hershey and then on to MN and back, so I may throw in a different driver's seat temporarily for that trip later this month. I will put the rocker deco brightwork back on the car this weekend, I think it will tie the wheels together and really complete the look.

On the upper west side

I made a new friend, Steve. How much should I sell it for?

The best part of this perfection is that you can enjoy the car every day. Take it to the store. Take it on trips. Pile-on the mile with no worries.

Once you go through with paint and cosmetic perfection things will be different. Enjoy the mechanical goodness that is pure.

Love the 7 Cookies. They fit perfect on this car.

Couple of comments:

1. The tires fit nice which I think adds to the look.
2. 15" wheels on an early car look great.. you see a lot with 14's and they dont have the sporty look.
3. The engine in that car right now sounds incredible.. I dont know what it is.. webers? exhaust? Something...

4. why am I numbering these?
5. The missing rear bumperettes add to the look even.

6. Put some carpet in it

7. Please do not rape this car by modifying the body.. we will find you and destroy you

Shaun,
Occasionally someone puts a car together that just has the "right" look, stance, etc. You did it. I like it.

Al

PS: I have never liked the cookie cutters before, but now.... I do.

Jamie, I agree completely. I may very well leave the paint as is for some time (honestly I don't have much of a choice given my motor, suspension and DE aspirations). Dave (dtw) has one of the nicest cars on all of Pelican, which is what I want the S to be, but this one I can put away wet and not have to worry about it. That's a good feeling, as I imagine driving that gem is.

Jeremy, no but you do have to at least roll your fenders. I ground down the inner lip and have the camber at -1.7.

JP, thanks for the good words, and indeed it does have a great raspy sound to it. How have you heard it though?

no worries on 7, it's safe.

Al, thank you. Your car, Rich Lambert's, dtw's, and many others were all inspirational to me in one aspect or another. It is about creating the right package. All are different, unique to their owners, and that's what makes them special. I've dragged many of your car's URL's into my Porsche folder on the desktop.

I'm sure putting together a beat-up, ratty old coupe says something about me.

final note: I came upon two 997s during my drive to and from NY yesterday. I may as well have been driving a 1981 Toyota Corolla.

Thanks Paul. When are you going down? night before? I haven't decided my schedule yet as I'm leaving Hershey and continuing on to MN. But yes, please let me know the schedule.

Hey man, great sentiment! I was having this conversation today...perfect is having something that you can enjoy and appreciate for what it is, and what it isn't...finding that balance is getting exactly what one needs for true appreciation and enjoyment!

Paintings are meant to be looked at, and cars are meant to be driven...

Reminds me of a quote my friend said with a smile...she's not the prettiest girl in school, but man is she fun.

Cheers,

- CraigD
