Question What's the best way to fix stone chips and a bit of road rash?

Hi guys,

I have a 1978 SC in original 451 Mocha Black paint. It has the "normal" stone chips on the hood, headlight bezels, etc., and a bit of road rash on the lower front of the car.

Any suggestions on what is the best touch up paint and the best process to use?

There also seem to be some touch up paints that have multiple steps including paint and clearcoat. Any thought on whether or not that is the best process or simply a one step paint?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Alan

OR.....you can do what I did....I am not a fan of road rash either...so I decided the best way to get rid of it was to replace the front bumper with a fiberglass one from TRE and do a wide body conversion with a full body respray....not exactly the cheapest cure for road rash....but certainly a fresher look.

You can try other means, but there really is no substitute for simply respraying the section in question. Nobody's going to think less of your car if this is needed and these aren't garage queens worth millions of dollars. I can repair a chip to the point were it is almost invisible but the time it takes to do multiple ones just doesn't add up. It still doesn't look nearly as good as a panels that was sanded , primer-ed, and painted.
