Okay, I'm posting this because I'm curious of what kind of responses it would get...obviously.
Anyways, if you had the chance to trade or sell your 911 for a Nissan Skyline GT-R, would you? I'm assuming you know what they are... ...oh god...please, I hope guys know what they are...that'll make the question so much easier to answer...

I doubt it. I would have to drive one to know for sure. I don't think it would have the same "character" as a 911 which is much of what I love about the car. A 911 feels like a racecar rather than a means to and end.

Yes, I know exactly what they are. And, yes, it makes it much easier to answer the question.

No to the Nissan. Now if we could talk about a 427 Shelby Cobra.

I wouldn't trade a 911 for a 996, never mind a skyline. It would be akin to changing religion.

From a financial standpoint, I would say yes. I'm assuming that the Skyline GTR you are looking at is a early 1990s car, and those things absolutely fly. I don't know how tough it will be to drive in the states, though. But I've seen them advertised for $50-70k around the web.
From a performance standpoint, I would say yes. These GTRs can outhandle and outperform the great majority of cars in the states. From an owner's standpoint, never. I have a 993 C2S that I love dearly, and I've had her for just a couple weeks. Nothing can beat it's beautiful design, the happiness I obtain when I drive it, the urge to wash and wax it every single day. What do you have to trade in or sell? Give us more detail. Is it a straight swap? |

I think the same question arose when nissan introduced 300zx Turbo. I remember people saying that it was the next Porsche killer, nothing happened, it was a fast car, really nice I even had one, sold it
, still have the 911 though

If the 993 with 32K miles didn't do it last month, nothing will. But a factory GT car would.

Would I trade my car for another car worth 60-70K?
well.....yes but in all honesty, I'd just sell it and use the money to buy myself like three older 911s. I've thought about this before... The people here are 911 enthusiasts... we don't make rational decisions too often. We are driven by love of these older cars, and for the most part, that is worth than cold statistics and performance figures. Hell that's only 1/10th of the fun. A Nissan? Piss on that.

If I did that I'd have to change religions. The church of the Eternal Flat Six Whine would toss my but out.

At this stage, about the only thing I would/will sell my 911 for, is to buy a house!

I have owned my 1985 Carrera for 15 years, I love it. I have often thought about getting a replacement but on second thought I always concluded that it was better to keep what I have. I looked at the new Boxster S for a vacation delivery in Europe, but I was repelled by the price, $60,000+ after options, taxes, etc. Also, I see Boxters on the street all the time but I am seeing fewer and fewer old 911's in near concours condition. The Boxter is becoming commonplace while the older 911's in great shape are relatively scarce.
Now, with all of that off my chest I must say that the new Mini Cooper S is going to be a great car when it arrives later this year. If I could sell my 1985 Red Carrera (35,000 well maintained miles) for $22-25,000.....no, no, I can't have those thoughts.....I must stop before I sin.

Yes, if I could sell it and use the money for a 993. Or maybe another 3.2 plus a Ferrari 328 or something... or a nice downpayment on a house.
But if I had to keep it? A Nissan!?! I'd rather walk or take the bus than drive a Japanese car. Don't care how fast it is...

Anyways, BrianH, can you explain this one to me? A person on the VW Vortex said he would take a German car over any Japanese car simply based on the fact it is German. I've never understood this, and I own both. I have had a total of 3 Japanese cars and one German...
