How tight is to tight in racing seat?

I got these corbeaus today and they said up to 36" waist, which is what I have,My hips are snug tight in the area where the harness/seat belt straps will come through the slots....real tight fit...is this normal,or should I have opted for next sz up?38" inch waist is next size up....

seems to me the tightest you can sit for will be the best seat.

If you are tracking it, tight is good as long as its not uncomfortible.

sit in it for a good while and check that your legs and or or butt does not fall asleep or cramp.

For me tight is where the seat fits like a glove. Meaning that I slide almost perfect in and out and there is just enough room for my harness to fit while still being comfortable. Once it's not comfortable then it's too tight. Also depends on the seat, I'd rather be a little too tight and a little too loose for my track/toy cars.

The real test for me is whether it'd be ok for me to drive to the track, drive the car, and then drive back. so a total of 5 hours there and back with about an hour driving the car at the track. If I'm ok when I get home then it's perfect. For me the only seats I can do this in so far are Cobra's and Bride's. I want to try a Sabelt and a nicer Recaro though.

Nippy,

If you have never driven on the track with a race seat, you will be amazed. Enjoy....

I just installed a set of Recaros & harnesses for DEs. It is a snug feeling but not claustrophobic. As 5:04 said they need to be comfortable for the 'long haul', unless you are specifically tracking the car. Just made a trip from Ct. to Va, a 9 hour drive. The seats are amazingly comfortable. I just kinda slide into them, hook up the 6 points and feel like I'm part of the car... a very nice feeling.
Let us know how you make out.

I never understood being uncomfortable...

Small enough that the seat accomplishes its job.

Keep you in one place so you can concentrate on driving.

(33inch waist in a 36inch seat)

If you can slip a credit card between you/fire suit and the seat w/o a rash or the bank cancelling it, you be cool......

As long as you get your butt and back right into the seat where they should be then that is the right fit, it is when you can't do this that the seats become uncomfortable.

In my old rally, racing days I used to sit in the seats all day, they were as tight as they could be but gave be good support and never became uncomfortable.

Also remember that as you get in and out a number of times the seat will start to ease slightly and get looser.

I'd say tight but no pressure points. The glove analysis is the best.

And not OJ's glove.......

I have the same seats in mine .After driving awhile the seat will warm up and conform to your shape and may give you a little more room.

I hope not. I'd rather conform to the seat.

Nippy,

Best go one size up for passenger seat. Instructors come in all sizes!

If it is pushing into your hips too much, that will get pretty old after 20 minutes of ripping around a track, and have a detrimental effect on your driving. Sure you want to be snug, but not uncomfortably so.
