Wow, thanks everyone - the feedback has been amazing in this thread.
Hasn't helped me make a decision one bit, but been amazing all the same

I think both will end up on the hoist undergoing a PPI.

Just thought I'd update this thread and let everyone know I have agreed to buy the 1986 Carrera.

In the end, it ended up being cheaper than the SC. I went back for a second inspection on the car, and the owner allowed me to take it for a good drive while he stayed at home so I got to test it out properly, without being too nervous with him sitting next to me. It's safe to say the second test drive was way more fun than the first I put a deposit on the car, all dependant on the PPI.

I got the PPI results back about an hour ago which were all good (leakdown tests were 4% on all cylinders). I took it to a Porsche specialist this morning and he told me I got myself a good one at a good deal. The only issue was that the mechanic thought I should eventually replace the rear shocks as they are looking old.

By mid next week the car should be parked in my garage ! I've wanted one of these cars since I was 12, so it's been a 23 year wait. I think the wife is happy the search has ended also

Nice! Rear shocks are a 3h job. Easy!
