glad you dumped the dunlops. not to say they are a bad tire, but certainly tire rack has a bad run of them right now.

hope we can do a drive sometime soon, have some new muscle that needs to be flexed....

sure

known affectionately as 'Henry's car', this is a west coast car, perfect, never repaired chassis and pan, even the front suspension pan has never been done, and is perfect, great black paint, worked on by all the best, many of whom can't be named on this forum....

turns out, the owner lives in the same development as my brother-in-law, and he had tagged along on one of the PA runs.....the drool is still on the car, had it DNA tested, it came back as Luke's and Reza's

it's got boxster brakes, a well built, $30,000 motor with JE pistons, weber carbs, S cams and more.....real, steel RS flares....super sticky and quick wearing toyo r888's....

on my hit-list, some interior work, period seats, lightweight carpet, and minilite wheels at least on the rear.....this car is fast, tight, exactly what it should be, several previous careful owners.

Lewis

sorry to hear about your experience with the dunlops. I was at a DE day last year and my instructor took me for a session in his car. he was running the star specs and I was really impressed with the grip they showed.

Girt...toyo r888, I expect their tread life to be measured by the minute....I've got 100 minutes on them and have seen noticeable wear

I am a fan of Yokohama s.drives for the kind of driving we do

Stay runed. Tire Rack sending out 4 New michelin Re11s. Car was still all over the road in the rain to Hersey but the swap meet was fantastic. It was great meeting some of the guys who followed the tread. Took some abuse for the rock star status from the guys. But it was fun. You local guys and anyone going by the area please send your info. Let's get driving. The nicest compliment of the day was from one of the guys who felt inspired to do some maintenance that was long delayed and get his car on the road. A true compliment in my eyes. Glad I could help. This week going to the shop for tires and balance / alignment. Just to be sure. I'll post some photos and if you guys are interested. I'll cover the Northeast Red Rally here in May for the guys stuck at home. Only 3 weeks away. It should be a great time. Cheers

Also we'll look at the brakes tell you what we find although all is well at present. Thanks to Eric at PMB for the note checking in on the problem. If anyone needs calipers restored Eric is the man. Plug for a great guy and service.

Hi Guys, sorry about the time away from updating but the real world was calling. We can all agree that it sucks. 9 days away from the RED Rally in the North East. The guys are getting itchy and last minute details are being attended to. And now for an update with my vintage saga.

Tire Rack and Dunlop accepted all the tires back with a full refund. Replaced the Star Specs with Bridgestones Re-11s. These tires completely revived the car. The handling is back. No more wandering around on the road and in turns the car sticks like glue. Mounted up right the first time and took minimal weights to balance. But as a side note, a friend of mine just bought the exact same dunlop tires but mounted them on 7 inch rims for a BMW and has had no problems. Must be something in the manufacturing that caused problems on the 6 inch rims. Don't know but he even had the same lot number. Stuff happens.

Speaking of stuff happens.. Brake issues continued even after another full bleed at the shop. Pedal would suddenly go down 1/2" while at a stop with no change in pressure. Talked it out with my mechanic and we decided to bite the bullet and change out the master cylinder that I had installed before the trip. Problem solved! Brakes firm, hard with no fading. One of two possibilities... Bad plunger / cylinder or the reservoir lines were not fully seating and causing the problem. Either way brakes fixed.

Lastly, Just to make sure- we corner balanced and aligned the car. Weight w/o driver 2210 lbs with 1/2 tank. Not bad. Front to Rear balance 48.5% with me in the car.

Just got back from a run along the scenic Delaware River and things were great.
Looks like I can actually stop worrying and drive the crap out of the car some more.

Big Thanks to Mark, Nick, Pop and Silent Mark at Speciality Cars for all the help and hospitality while we sorted out the issues. I highly recommend this shop if you are anywhere near the Allentown PA area. In fact I drive 1 1/2hrs just to go there. Great guys with tremendous skills and they care. You would not be disappointed. Just remember to be there around lunch time. A true feast.

Thanks again.

RED Rally and more driving, 9 days and counting.

Hersey in the rain...

Speciality Cars

Today

Cheers!!

Looking good, Girt.
Good that the brake issue is resolved.

One of the things this thread points out is how well Porsche KG was run with Ferry Porsche in charge and engineers (not bean counters) designed our cars.

It was sad to see ‘Weniking’ cost the Porsche family the company ownership and the world the (formerly great) cars.

Let’s keep driving them as Dr. Porsche intended.

Best,
Grady

One of the things this thread points out to me is how much work I have to do with my car to catch up with y'all. Hard to do with a daily driver, but it's great driving it daily. Glad it's built so well.
