Retired, finally
|
Congrats on (hopefully) getting the Porsche you wanted.
Moms have a way of coming around, eventually, if they know you really want something. My mom, bless her heart, is 81 y.o. For the last 46 years, she has been telling me I could not have a Porsche. I think she was greatly affected by James Dean's demise.Anyway, I bought a '84 Targa in January, and didn't tell her until last month. I was at her house for dinner, and said that I wanted to tell her about my new toy. Before I could say what it was, she said that she had had a dream where I called her to tell her I had bought a Porsche. Can't get much by your mom.The next week I brought it by and took her for a ride. She never let go of the door handle, but she didn't complain too much, either. Then I told her about the D.E.s at Roebling Road and Road Atlanta...............

We should drive by the house someday in my 1973 RS replica... maybe that might get her thinking...

Well, this might be coming to a head... My mom has gotten a citation/violation notice before for having the 911 sitting in the driveway. Before, all it took was a cover to appease the city. (I bought her a cover from Pelican Parts.). Now, she's gotten another citation that says if she doesn't get the vehicle registered and repaired or removed, she will be fined.
Now my mother may be stubborn enough to try and get it registered and covered up again but I really don't see that as an option and knowing the city, being "on her" already, will be more adamant about checking the status of the car. I am hoping at this point, she will see the only option would be to tow it to my house so I can store it. And maybe I can start to assess the car and see what it really needs... Which is probably everything. Stay tuned... |

Great news! You going to need to kick Sid's toys out of the garage?

Read the actual law very carefully. There may be a loophole. I know my city has an exemption for collector cars. She can also buy a storage container and put it in the driveway and put the car in it, which is legal.

That is really good news Tweeze.
I will most likely close on that place I mentioned in Chino Valley, in early July. And will be moving my toys in there ASAP . There will be at least one slot open in the shop that you or Sid are welcome to use for at least a few months as I will be coming back to Hawaii for a couple of months to hang with my boys here while Margaret is recovering in Calif. I realize that is quite a distance, but if you or Sid just need to stash one of your cars out of the sun and weather for a while you are welcome to bring it on up at that time. Congrats on the break through with your Mom! :-) Cheers Richard |

Oh. Good news from Kauai , I found a perfect new owner for the red targa and have closed the deal on it. I had it out near the road with a for sale sign for about an hour the other day. And a long time Porsche Guy and former Indy shop owner from Northern Calif. spotted it while here on vacation. He and his wife came the next day to check it out and made an offer we are all happy with.
Great timing for me. Cheers Richard. |

Tweeze........... nice thread , good to see anyone male or female who's interested in being a driver rather than an operator of a Pcar.
As far as the codes folks and their interest in the car. We've got people in my office doing just that and I can tell you from years of being in "the business" that once they've got something on their radar they only way to resolve it is going to be to have it removed ( hopefully mom will see moving it to your place IS the only option). THankfully the only time I've got to do that end of the codes business is when it's really ugly, condemnation, youth and children services involvement, after fires etc. Luckily I'm commercial construction codes where life is clean and decent. I realize that you see the totality of this project but one thing is in your favor. You won't have to re-do a PO's work to get things straight and you've already done the right thing by pinging in to Pelican. I, however, didn't know and for the first 10 yrs of owning mine was floating without Pelican tech to help. |

It is cool to see an update.
It is amazing how Pelican has changed your life since you started this thread. Good luck on getting the car!

I will expect some new pictures of you sprawled across the car when you get it! We like pictures here, even if there has to be a 911 in it to qualify it...

Glen, right? Pelican has changed my life is so many ways and I never got to do what I wanted to do to the P car on the first place! I told Sidney that I am going to write a book about this place, my story, and about all the people I have "met" here. The title is going to be Porsches and Pelicans.
But I am waiting for the story to play out a little more until I write it.
