Question regarding 69 911 Harness
The first question I have is are the factory wiring harnesses for 69 911 and 69 912 the same with the same PET number with just certain leads left unused in the 912 ? The reason I am asking is I unfortunately had flood damage in my car and want to have a new harness fabricated. The best person I could find so far has decent knowledge of the 69 harness compared to earlier and later but only has an intact 912 to look at for reference. He would like to know if their the same. For my part if you have the right person to do the job I'd take referrals as well. The factory link to the parts catalog has a 69 911 but unless I'm missing something I couldn't find the 912 so i couldn't compare parts numbers. thanks.

They are not the same. I just looked at the PET for 69 and they list the different harnesses for 912 and 911 separately. The harnesses for 911T E and S are not the same either. Having said that I'm sure they are very similar but I don't think that'll be good enough.

thank you for response. Is there any way you can send me to the PET pages for the 912? I couldn't find a link.

duetto66,
First, Welcome to the Pelican 911 Forum ![]() You will find a lot of help here. The ’69 911 wiring is unique and not remotely similar to prior or subsequent years. … Well, remotely. Other than the connectors, Porsche wiring is relatively immune from damage by water. There are many other parts of the car (including chassis) that are more susceptible to damage. Where the harness is wrapped, it can be unwrapped, cleaned, dried and rewrapped. I think Porsche will make you a new harness but that might take into the next decade and rival the budget of some small countries. Having your existing harness, you can manufacture a new one. I understand the wire and connectors are available. There are a number of ’69 owners that might cooperate in a mutual effort. Tell us more about the flood damage. Interior chassis cavities are a concern. You may have the opportunity to take your 911 down to the chassis and repair it so it will never rust (again). Best, Grady

I have a 100% original uncut, no scotch locks molested '69 "front" of car harness..its just the part from the fuse panel the the headlights, turn signals etc..
If your interested let me know... As mentioned before..the harness may be the least of your worries from a flood... The cardboard mufflers that are part of the HVAC in the longitudinals are probably shot if the car was in water for any length of time.. your heat may be funky

flood damage and wiring harness
well the water got up to several inches above the floor pan. The water was semi-saline so it did do some corrosion damage. I got it dried out in a matter of hours but the sterring rack and pedal box were replaced. everything is in pretty good working order now. The engine fires up when we wire directly. I can't say about the wiring harness being able to be dried out because I was at the mercy of the garage who said it can't be used. At this point is is not an option. (water under the bridge?). The real problem is that I bought what was supposedly a 69 harness from a porsche dismanteler which turned out not to be the case and a lot of time was wasted trying to patch that up into the car. The garage should have told me immediately that it was not correct instead of wasting a lot of time. This is all complicated slightly due to the fact the car is highly modded and even the correct stock harness has to be revised during fabrication or during install. I have a harness fabricator who is familiar with the 69 differences between the 69 and other years but he only has a 912 as a template. He asked me to confirm that the 912 and 911 are the same. So far I've gotten conflicting responses from the board. Tijnes says they are definitely not the same and Jaems says they are. Since Tijnes has the PET numbers I'll accept what he's saying. in the meantime i'm very interested in the harness TimT has. I sent him an email but if anyone reads this and knows him let him know i'm trying to reach him.

Here are PET files I have for wiring from 69, maybe it'll help your shop figure out what the differences are. Do they have the '69 wiring diagram?
Considering that originality is not an issue it is not that hard to make it work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
