Question 911SC A-arms mystery

a recently acquired 1980 SC track-car project has front lower a-arms that are all square tubing, no round bar on the hypotenuse

the ball joint 2-bolts into the lower tube on an "arm" similar to things i've seen on USA cars

see picture

this looks nothing like i've seen on any other porsche, and matches no parts diagrams i can find

- the crossmember is a steel round tube style & it apparently has Boge struts (black)

got any ideas what-is-it & who made it? and where to get ball joints if needed?

you have a back dated suspension. that is 65-67 type.

The ball joints are readily available, but much more expensive that the correct ones for your car.

Make sure you have the correct matching struts with an M10 bolt to secure the ball joints, and not the wedge pin type that came on your car. A mismatch here is unsafe.

Correction to my post above.

You do have the 65-67 suspension. But the potential mismatch I warned about applies to the 69-71 ball joint configuration - brain fade on my part.

The 65-68 type ball joint does not use an M10 bolt, and cannot be mistakenly used with your original struts. You obviously have the correct struts for those ball joints. Thanks to Grady for catching my lapse.

What brake calipers do you have on the front of that car? You can't put SC calipers on the SWB struts, can you? Are the rotors vented?

No sway bar, no brake line hook up....looks like someone just stuck an early (ratty looking) front suspension on to keep the nose off the ground. Look for the right parts for your SC.

thanks to all, for the ID and tips

wouldn't it be "easier" to modify this type ball-joint setup for non-stock camber ??

caliper is 3-inch bolt center, non vented rotor

It is a no-rust, wide-body conversion targa with 928 wheels

i got it out of a bodyshop bankruptcy auction, and have now decided it is too much for me to try to re-assemble and maybe will try for an eBay sale - it would be a good starting point for somebody with a complete wrecked 911 donor on hand
