Well the ole' 3.2 is in the shop for some much needed repairs. It started as a top-end to fix the dreaded PVGW (premature valve guide wear) and has turned into a "while I'm in there" adventure.
My wrench has informed me that the Cam oil lines are leaking and need to be replaced (no biggie), but he also mentioned that I need to purchase the updated support brace kit for the cam lines. I can't seem to find this kit, or any mention of it. Does anyone have a clue.. a part #... a source? Thanks. I'm sure there'll be more questions as the motor comes apart.

IMO, the small tensioner oil lines is a weak point in the oil system. The upper end of the small oil line has solder to connect the flare fitting on to the end of the line. Vibration puts a strain on the upper fitting where it attaches to the main oil line. The tens. oil line braces are inexpensive. Left is 930.107.341.00, right is 930.107.342.01. I carry an extra set of the vulnerable small oil lines in luggage comp. A leak in this oil line can be a quick mess and the lines are not available at the local auto parts store.

Thanks for the info. It's pretty much exactly what I was told by my wrench.
If I carried a backup for every venerable part on my Carrera, I wouldn't have room for a passenger.

Dan,
Make sure to have your wrench take a GOOD look at that fuel line that everybody has been talking about lately. It's the one that goes under the intake manifold and feeds the two fuel rails and all of your injectors. CD is in the mail. Watch the "while you're in there" itch. It can get out of hand real quick. Use good judgment.

KTL thanks,
I had him check that. It passed the inspection. Too bad the rocker shafts, cam lines, clutch, starter and ring gear failed miserably (actually the list is longer). I'm getting $30 to death by all those little parts. The good news is that my P/C's look "brand new". I'm going with the automotion type fix for the clutch, but having a bear of a time trying to find the kit anywhere but Automotion. The search continues!

I had that little oil line fail when I was at a DE at Mosport, 500 miles from home.
A certain Lou Gerhig quote came to mind when one of the instructors gave me the spare piece he carries around. When I got home I ordered the brace kit and a new line for my generous friend. apparently its the left side piece that fails the most. |

Eeeeyup. Happened to me too.
Left side started leaking at a DE 400 miles from home. Had to continuously top it off to get home, left a nice mess to clean up. Now both cars have the support brackets.
