Yes, there's a big difference of opinion about MW here...
That said, just for the heck of it I posted my video (another shameless plug - this one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/833497-classic-911-what-s-big-deal-video.html ) to his Facebook page, hoping he would see it, and maybe even comment - and he did! Yes, I admit to be one of his 'fans', so that made my day.

If you draw a line in the sand and say 'here' and no further, you're missing the point, and missing out on a whole bunch of the passion.
Ruf. Techart. Singer. Sharkwerks. Abarth. Autofarm. Emory. Walker. Who is to say that one is acceptable and another is not? That the 911 is so unbelievably flexible - able to accommodate different tastes and purposes - is to be celebrated. For me, as an ad guy, this is the secret to the astonishing power of the Porsche brand: from the guy who thinks a widebody targa in yellow with 18inch speed lines is the business, to the guy who demands everything is exactly the same way it left the factory. The 911 is not owned by Porsche, it is owned and treasured by all the diverse nutters out there - like us - who find a way to express themselves with Porsche bits, each with their own recipe. The Singer cars do very little for me. But I admire and appreciate their approach and what they do for the marque. Their work makes my air-cooled world a little richer. Their approach, if not the result, inspires me to look at my own restoration in a new way. I think Magnus, in his own anti-establishment way, has brought the gospel of the 911 to a whole new bunch of (young) people that would otherwise have avoided us air-cooled anoraks. After all, being anti-establishment and contrarian is at the heart of the 911. |

My 911 is just the way I want it. I can appreciate any 911 that is loved and driven. I have very little admiration of a 911 museum piece. I can appreciate a concours winner that is driven to the show and driven home. A trailer queen is not my cup of tea but I would never throw insults at the car or the owner. Mangus builds the cars the way he wants. They are not for me, but it is real easy to NOT buy one. I am a grumpy old dude and will never have a 911 without good air conditioning. I have driven my 911 to California three times, and it has been to the east coast twice, Michigan once and I plan to drive it to all of the lower 48 states. I am well over 1/2 way there.

Magnus is hardly anti-establishment unless you are going on his appearance alone. He is a rich, perhaps headed toward wealthy, clothing manufacturer who has a Porsche hobby--a Porsche hobby which he has also capitalized on--and he happily rubs elbows with "establishment" types whenever he can. (Pebble Beach anyone?) He's as mainstream as they come.
I'll meet you halfway. He's new establishment. Same old pursuit of personal wealth and status but with a different outfit and coiffure. I do like his cars, especially his recent Turbo purchases.

Magnus is what most of us but dream to be... Not affected by the purest who despise any modification. The 911 platform, over the years, seems to have been designed for modifications and updates. "Your 911" is just that... With the small exception of "investment quality" garage queens, your 911 should reflect everything you want from your Porsche. Collectors and entry level owners all share a common passion for the brand, regardless of the reasons we drive these iconic sport machines...
I'm just sayin'

Met Magnus this fall at the Goodwood Revival vintage motorsport event in Britain. Great guy to talk with about old cars and to share experiences. I'm a real fan of his latest turbos as well.

Why A Track Rat 911 Is A Great Buy
Another (small) article from Jalopnik. Magnus Walker built this Porsche 911 in 6 weeks on the cheap - Road & Track And it’s damned near perfect. |

It isn't at all surprising that he's turned a bit of attention to shorthood cars. Let's see.....a rusted out '71 for $35,000.00, or an also ran 3,0 that needs a regrind for $5,200.00? Not a hard decision. |

Moriarty, It sure seems so, doesn't it, and it is a shame. I wish someone who knows Magnus would encourage him to start again and show us some of his 77-80 Turbo 911s.
My car is a 74 base 911 (or was) so I do not see any of them on this sight, but I sure got a lot of ideas which I have used on my car. And I would like some more. Example, I have a 67 inside rear view mirror, silver painted wipers parked on the right etc. Dale

I know he's busy guy but he obtained a lot of publicity and traction via this thread. It's sad to see him let the thread die. I also would enjoy his late 70s and early 80s cars, hope he comes back.

i think he is following this...just as he started in w/ pelican and the more public porsche life = if we all pelican-ites start here & on other social media asking for hm to continue his porsche workings display & info on pelican, he may return...that is our only hope that I see that we have to turn the ship around & get him back on pelican...
So here is 1 vote for magnus to returm...I too would like to see what flair he is adding to the later cars = turbos & such...he does have a great eye for this work...just like with his clothing business = he has an eye for that too...hope to see him return...thx, bob

Just an FYI...he was gracious enough to host is at his (amazing) warehouse on Tuesday, and let me interview him for my podcast. He's just a fellow Porsche addict that would rather be driving than just about anything else.
Here's the interview if you want to hear his in depth story: (It's free to listen) On iTunes: http://solohour.com/i/191 On the web: http://solohour.com/191 MP3 download: http://solohour.com/ta/191 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Him sitting in my car... ![]() Anyway, he was really friendly, and enthusiastic. Even though we were his 10th tour of the DAY. The new car is beautiful, btw. I don't want to post pics of it, because it's his to debut. I was on the fence about the fender louvers, but they look cool, and the whole car is so well executed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
