Coincidently I've just bought a 68 coupe for development to a historic 2.0 race car which will take some cues from a very famous '68 racing 911 here in Australia - the Hamilton T/R. Your car looks very similar

Wow, that cars a dead ringer. I probably could have saved a fortune buying that car in Austrailia and overnighting it to Canada by Fedex. But then what would Larry and I have done with the extra thousand or so hours of idle time. We'd probably be in jail by now. I think we did the right thing.

PS Your build on the 69 is awesome, I read the whole thing this morning.

I wish you could buy that cheap of an upgrade for these old Porsches. I see you want an 87-89 Porsche but in my experience a well sorted 915 transmission works great. I wouldn't rule out the 84-86 Carerras.
I haven't tuned the car yet, I will, but waiting til I feel I need the power and will definitely go apr. I have changed the springs, to more euro spec type of vw spring(DG springs), added three chassis braces from unibrace, changed the tail lights to the euro r LEDs, and bought a set of lighter weight OZ wheels with summer rubber. I love the car and plan on keeping it for a while. The tune will be probably my last major mod. I'm an architect and also finishing a renovation to my house that has taken too long. I am going to need a project, so looking at a 911 seems to be it. I have been looking at pretty much any mid to late 80s carreras coupe. I have the cash, just trying to win over the wife. I work in detroit and cross the border every day so in some ways I have the best of both worlds as I can source stuff from both sides of the border.

Greg,

Incredible job. Can't even imagine the hours you and Larry had to put in to get the car to this point. The car looks amazing. Love the colour and the interior is just perfect with the sport seats and all. Hopefully I will be able to get my SC down to Larry's shop in the fall and have a closer look.

Here's a look the fitment before we get the vinyl applied.

I bought the dash here on the Pelican used parts forum. I found an original so it's now in my spares pile.

Hi Greg (long time no contact),

Amazing work! What gauge steel did you use for the patches? My 1969E requires similar repair and your work is an inspiration!

Hi Tom,

We used 16 gauge wipe coated steel. Good luck with your 69.

I havent touched the 68 since the spring... too much going on in the summer. I should be getting back on the project this fall and it"s getting close.

As usual I picked up the roll cage on this Pelican forum. I actually found it in Ottawa so it was a lot easier on the taxes/duty/shipping front. It's a very tight fit and a bit of a PITA to bolt in once the carpet and underlay was installed.

Greg - I am prett much gobsmacked by your work. Well done! I keep looking at projects like this and wishing I could tear into my 69 and revive it, but compared to what you started with, my car is already restored by comparison!

Cheers,
Keith

Speechless....ummm...WOW!

If this is what my old 912 needed, I am pretty happy I sold it. However, I'd be even more happy to have this finished project. Again, WOW!

Out-fricking-standing! I just read the entire post and am awstruck. My compliments!
I just finished pulling apart the last of my engine last week - to see what all needed to be done. (spun the #2 rod bearing a few years ago - actually, it was in 1985.... Haven't done anything other then a little sanding & temp priming of the body yet - it needs a lot of work.
I'll have to swap stories with NEWFIE 69 911E.
cheers,
jt (69 911E)

Just read through this this evening. You guys have performed some extraordinary work on a car that other folks would have tossed without a thought.

Thanks for taking the time to document and share your progress with the community. I always appreciate threads like this, they continually renew my interest in the hobby.

WOW WOW WOW! Incredible work! I have a '70 that has "some rust" that will need to be addressed. This is definitely motivational! Everything turned out fantastic! Nice attention to detail!

Did you have any issues with anything lining back up after the repair/patch panels were installed?

Well done, sir!!
