Had a great morning drive and the weather was perfect. Very unfortunate mishap on the way up the mountain but saw that the driver was o.k could have been much worse! I lost a right front tire due to a cut on the outside sidewall, very small problem. Wish I could have made it to Sunol. I'm just glad everyone is safe. Alan.

Just heard from the driver ... he is 100% OK ... the tow truck pulled the car out and believe it or not he drove home .. he just arrived at his house the front valance and fogs are bent .. the fenders and hood are scratched up and added character to the car .. the rear valance was bent up during retrieval .. and a crushed oil line but he is in good mood and thankful ....

Steve

Thank you to everyone that showed up... and thank you the rest of you that helped out when needed ... after all the car can be fixed and everyone is OK ....

opps!

Thanks for the concern and everyone's help.

Stuff happens and no point crying over split milk as they say.

Apart from some scratches that will more than likely buff out, I have a bent valence, one crushed oil line and dented rear bumper which occurred whilst being towed out!

It happened so fast, that I lost it by over correcting, no one to blame but myself for having too much speed in the corner. I almost didn't go over and was probably at 5mph when I slid over. Note to one's self, be more bloody careful!

Mostly I'd like to really thank my good mate Greg (darkbeer) for hanging back with me and helping out so much and then following me home.

It's great to see that 98% of the run was really good and a fantastic gathering of friends - looking forward to the next one :-)

Hey Matt,

I talked to Steve this afternoon and he told me about your adventure. Glad to hear that you are OK and that the car is (relatively) OK too. Happy New Year!

Matt, I'm very grateful to hear that you were able to drive it home. It was a relief to see you uninjured save for a brief bout of well-earned adrenaline shock.

I was two cars back and screened by the hillside from seeing your incident. I didn't think that anyone was driving at less than prudent speeds in the moments leading up to your exit from the roadway. Looking at your skid, I wondered if you hadn't hooked an inside tire. The verges were very abrupt, to say the least -- a 997 on 19's had cut two dropped inside tires before the rest stop. I've seen incidents before where a driver explores snap oversteer when yanking a dropped wheel back onto the road. Thankfully you experienced a slow spin and didn't encounter any obstacles until the chaparral caught you.

Thanks to Greg for keeping a cool head and sticking with you. All's well that ends well!

-- David

Great drive!

Probably the most fun drive I have had with my Boxster S. A very close second would be the first day I got it and took my daughter for a spin!

Thanks!

Just a few more pics, not to duplicate here. As so many are the same pretty much.
My new camera was set on "raw" by mistake, so pics were a bit too large to post here,
so I made a picture video on youtube instead. (be sure to expand the video to 480p+ or full screen)

Sorry, it's not a real movie, hard to do that when driving.
I'm not a professional movie maker, so don't expect too much....still learning, give me time ;-)

Happy New Year to all, safe driving in 2012.
..thanks for organizing the drive Steve!

I'm afraid I must break my silence relating to the "mishap" with Matt's car.
Truth is, we have been working on a top secret system to allow a Porsche to actually fly, for short distances. Imagine, stuck behind one of those @(%^&$# Prius Drivers on a 2 lane road with Dbl Yellow line.....just push a button, and FLY OVER the fool, land in the lane and continue on your way. We are still working some of the bugs out....but, we think we are CLOSE........This was a minor setback.
