Snapping Noise Fixed - Door Stay - The Video

Hope everyone had a Happy Christmas - here is my gift to the collective!

Several door stay threads have complaints about noisy door stay movement. Mine was akin to a gunshot!

The fix shown below as far as I read was first promulgated by SW and confirmed by JW but is sort of lost in time and amoungst other door stay / limiter issues. I used a bolt on mine and shot a YouTube to demonstrate sound, movement, fitment and relief. It is a riviting 30 seconds!

I used a 6M 20mm hex cap head bolt and a nylock nut. Enough thread was exposed to allow the use of a 16 mm bolt by my estimation.

Did/does anyone have it worse than this (before it is fixed :p)?

Mine sounded about like yours. A really loud popping sound on each dedent when opening the door. I made the same fix as you and no more popping. I have not seen anyone replace the factory pin. Are they not available?

Any one know if this a long term fix. I looks like the hole may be elongated and the clamp pressure is keeping it from popping. How long will this do the trick?
Thanks for posting the video.

Cheers Richard

FYI Madre sells the correct hardware that looks a lot better than a bolt. Cheers

How do you get the original roll pin out - or is it original? I tried a drift, various pliers, etc. No luck. It's awkward to get at the thing as it sits there.

I did a search and found a couple recommendations, but they haven't worked for me.

I used a longish drift and put a cloth shield against the sill metal where the hammer would strike. It took a surprising amount of force.

The above list a pin for the door hinge. The pin in question in this thread is the one in the door stay, where it connects to the small bracket on the door.

I don't object to using the bolt solution that others list above, I just find it difficult to remove the old pin without risking damage.
