993 Update

Seller says there's a 10k difference, won't accept my 5k offer or my compulsive 6k offer. This is going to be the one that got away. Do you think if I wait a week, I would be calling his bluff or forget it.

Superman 04-10-2002 01:51 PM

BigPainterDude, one of the few thing I have come to understand now that I am nearly three times as old as I was when I knew everything...is that the visible world (and perhaps the one we don't see as well) has a rhythm. If we try to force our preferrred timetable on things, the machinery goes haywire. It takes far less energy, and is far more effective, to sit quietly and listen for that rhythm before we decide on a course of action. This is why mature men outperform the younger guys nearly every time (my apologies to you young guys out there). In my previous life as a young, high-energy, trail-blazing, take-no-prisoners, I'll do it my way lad, I caused myself tenfold more work and misery by trying to make something happen whether or not the world was making it easy or hard. I don't know what you're trying to do with the 993 issue, but I'll confess that it sounds as if this is an excellent time for you to sit back, relax and wait. If it's meant to be, you'll get a call and the price will be to your liking. If it's not, then buying the car will be your worst case scenario, even if you don't think so right now. That's my advice whether you like it or understand it or neither.

Jack Olsen 04-10-2002 01:55 PM

I'd say wait. Sellers get very good at acting indifferent, knowing that the buyer usually has a much bigger emotional investment in making the deal. He's paying to keep it on his lot. It's not an easy car to sell. Give him a couple of weeks and come back with the 6K.

In the meantime, look around at other 993's. A few test drives never hurt anybody. :)

Brian993 04-10-2002 02:14 PM

Superdude and Jack, I appreciate what your saying. I just need to hear it. I want to wait and I will. I think your right about his indifference act. He knows I want the car and I know he has had it for 6 weeks. So I guess I need to wait it out and if its meant to be it will happen, otherwise its out of my hands. But oh man what are freakin car!

Vipergrün 04-10-2002 02:22 PM

Here is a line I have used on car salesmen in the past;

"I do not NEED to buy a car, but you NEED to sell a car to put food on your table"

Makes them think twice. Heck, let the car sit for another 6 weeks,
then he may beg you to buy the car, or you my find the *perfect* one. Either way, it's the dealers loss, not yours.

Have you tried walking in with $$ in hand?

cheers

Just wait. He will come around. At the price he is asking, its not like he going to find a buyer next week. Take it from someone who has done a lot of negotiations.

Brian993 04-10-2002 06:39 PM

Nostatic, I am trying to play nice here, you sense alot of things. But you dont have sense enough to go out (get off the 911 bbS) and buy yourself a 911. I have to wonder if your not content driving your computer 24/7. ;)

I understand your frustration and good on you for waiting - like Super said - what will be will be.

But here comes my guidance counsellor advice (sorry) - be honest with your wife and let her know how much you've got and that you are holding off. It will free you of any guilt and she love you more and appreciate your being honest and also showing maturity (responsibility) in holding off.

Cheers
Mark

PS I'm not trying to flame you as being dishonest or irresponsible. Its just that families work best when there's no secrets.SmileWavy

Brian993 04-10-2002 07:36 PM

I can appreciate what your saying Mark. If I told her I had the 6k and I wanted to spend it on this car, I could forget it. Sorry Mark but I want this car.

The wife and family never, never, go without. She lives very well and will continue to do so. I would just prefer to tell her about the 6k after I buy the car, if it happens. If it doesnt it will stay in the slush fund.

Not all women are understanding of men's passions. Not that I think your wrong, but its the way it has to be sometimes. If I set it aside for a gift for her to accomplish a surprise would that be ok?

No secrets here, just surprises. Please say no more as my wife and kids are my business.

sick of the Boxster already? how come?

didn't you just get it less than a month ago?

Brian993 04-10-2002 07:54 PM

No emmanel, not sick of it, just came across this 993. Never should have taken it for a ride, never should have. Have you driven one, have you driven a boxster both nice cars, but given the choice. Well lets just say, I want the 993. I have had the boxster for 7 weeks I believe, why is it wrong to want to trade it? Does that mean I am sick of it? I think I am jumping the gun, you probably were'nt insinuating anything anyways.

no haven't driven a Boxster but have driven a 1991 C2 coupe...
didn't like it, too many gadgets.

Take a look at http://www.phxcars.com/ . My buddy in Los Angeles bought his 96 993 Cabriolet from there, flawless transaction, no sales tax, for $42k, shipped to your door, included in the price. Since they are in Arizona, there will be no sales tax to you. They apparently have much more inventory than their list shows, and all their cars are only very, very clean ones. They usually are wholesalers, selling their inventory to other dealers around the country. Good luck.

Unless your friend leaves the car in Az for 90 days after the date of purchase, he will have to pay use tax (same as sales tax) in CA when he registers the car here.

Jeez BigPainter

You publicly offer information and then treat people as if they have no right to offer advice when that was what you were asking for!

Quote 1:

My wife would kill me if she found the 4k missing (she dont know I have the 6k).

And then Quote 2:

'Please say no more as my wife and kids are my business.'

Well then keep the family out of the posts, and stay on task with what your asking!

I am insulted by your tone! I stay out of the crap I read that is often connected to your posts (crap often posted by other people that is insulting to you) but hey, you posted the info so it becomes public domain and therefore you're gonna get advice that might not suit you but hey...take it or leave it, but don't ask with one hand and take with another.

I should have listened to my previous thoughts not to get involved in your threads! Wiser I guess!

Mark

No offence, but

I'm with Mark on this one. He sums my feeling up nicely. Like yourself, BigB, I am on the hunt for an early 993. I have done tons of pricing research and have engaged in early stage negotiations with several sellers in Canada and the US. I was going to offer my advice and suggestions, but after reading your arrogant responses, I think I'll keep my car advice to myself. You, BigB, have other [more serious] issues than trading a Boxster for a 993. My only advice to you is the kind of advice you seem to loathe: treat the people in your life with respect and kindness--this includes wife, children, friends, and people on this board that take the time to type out responses to your questions. Lance.

Uh oh, here we go again :)

Nope, No here we go again.

I think Mark was offering good advice on what he had to go on. I did not mean to upset you, Mark. Sorry that you and ljonespwc feel the way you do. My point in this quote was simply to stay to the point. This car the I would like to buy. I do understand the information I posted as well as you interpitation of it. I just did not want to get bombarded with similar responses.

Things are not what they seem, she knows I keep a few bucks tucked away, just not how much. But I should not have posted it the way I did, I was wrong. I enjoy stopping here and I want to change my image here but perhaps its to late. But in this case it is a misunderstanding. I dont want to write a novel here so thanks for your help.

Mark I am sorry.:)
