You've put a tremendous amount of time and effort into your car. Some obstacles along the way, but you have persevered and earned every right to sit in it and go vroom, vroom as much as you like!
This is a great thread for anyone taking on a project like this.
If you get bored.... Have you done the drivers door interior yet?
I also think a set of chrome H4's would really make your car stand out with all the work you've put into the trim. (Still spending your money for you!)

BTW, today while on the way to ANOTHER freaking birthday party, he was naming cars. He got 17 right before missing on a Subaru. Not too shabby. Shortly after he exclaimed "it is like Honda City here". Love that little dude.
My favorite post and picture in this thread. It shows the tradition and enthusiasm being passed down.

Happy Father's Day!

Needspace,
Just wanted to thank you for the time, effort and perseverance you have put into documenting your journey with your car.
I have enjoyed reading every step you have made along the way but most importantly you have given me the will, encouragement and courage to attempt repairs on my own car that I would normally pay others to do.
You should be rightfully proud of the inspiration you unknowingly give to others.
Once again thank you for increasing the enjoyment I have with my own car by encouraging me to learn more about it.
We are truly fortunate to have this great website and the community that frequents it!
Cheers
Bill

You mind if I share the Dad's day pride in the same vein? Taken about half an hour ago my little helper, love that kid!

mine got his first ride in the '73 hotrod, a good hour to CVR's father's day picnic in Norwalk, fell asleep 45 minutes into it (hour long drive) after performing the duties of navigator, great job, although his help would have been used more towards the end....

here's a good shot of him post engine-drop-assitance

Thanks Bill, I appreciate...great father's day present. I'll take "an inspiration" but to be fair, probably also "a warning to all" in there as well.

Let me know when you post, would love to see the progress!

Great shot. I have to get this shot next time I drop the engine...notice there is no more "ifs" in that statement for me...

I'll have to stop by soon and see your progress. Looking forward to hearing about your trip. Did you get the car repainted?

It's coming along. John Esposito is the man

He found one little nudge up front, straightened it, and now tells me the car is very straight and true, a good one, he says.

Dash is going out to our own George E at AIR for refresh, Esposito is filling in the antenna, holes in rockers, backdating the mirrors, should look like a 74-75 when he's done. Silver, ruf bumpers and a ducktail....ymmm

+plus one on Detailers Domain, Phil is the man. If you ever really want to treat your car, take it to him. Seen tons of photos of work he is done. they also sell a lot of great products. What you want is a dual action polisher. Modern ones make it very hard to damage your paint as they just stop if you apply too much pressure.

Great trip today. My 911 ran VERY well, actually probably the best ever. When warm she is idling at about 500 rpms. Beautiful. When cold, starts but won't idle for first 30 seconds, then idles very low at about 300 rpms (definitely a WUR tweak). I am getting slightly more oil smoke than usual and the temp of the engine was at the solid white line @ 210, usually it has been about 180 or 190. Temp outside wasn't that hot. My hypothesis is that I haven't put the hose from the right heat exchanger up to the blower motor so all that heat is cooking under the car. The bumper is extremely hot so I think the theory holds water.

When the car is warm but sitting for about 30 minutes, it gives me a little trouble starting. Again, I think it is the low idle. I'll correct this soon.

The trip with novadia and hbueno was great. Great drive being sandwiched between two redheads...My son enjoyed changing the gears as well. Funny, he is already used to the new shift linkage, me, I had trouble putting it into 4th a couple of times (sorry hbueno, I think I caused you to get cut off at least once!). Each time I drive this car I enjoy it more and more. I best avoid getting a 911 cab as my MB would be stuck in the garage.

Running into Richy007 was definitely another highlight of the trip. I have to admit, it was a little freaky having someone who just happened to be at our destination come up and ask me if I was the guy from pelicanparts! What are the odds!?! Richy, I am hoping you take this interaction as a sign you need to get one soon...finish the house upgrades soon so you can join us. Congrats on gradating from lurker to poster!

I totally get the house thing. I had to rehab my house as well. I redid every floor, wall and ceiling in the house. Here are some before and after photos. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/446692-before-after-pics-11.html#post7263971 I got the car just before starting my last bathroom (the river rock); the deal with the wife was I couldn't touch the car until the BR was complete. The day it was done, while the silicon beads were still drying I was having a flatbed take the car back to my house!

So, on to my next thoughts.

Thought 1: Novadia mentioned that my oil leak/smoke is most likely due to cylinder number 6 seal. I have to look into this one, would love to cut down on the oil leaks.

Thought 2: I have been thinking a lot about the upcoming bodywork. I cannot seem to get this color combo out of my head. I LOVE this green and I love the idea of doing the two tone. Not the Irish green I was planning on doing but this feels a little more fun for my toy. I would keep the frunk, hood and rear decklid black, but the fenders, doors and probably the bumpers would go with this green. Not an original porsche color that I can tell but this shouldn't impact value on this car.

If you want, post a pic of the car up at a 3/4 angle and I'll photoshop it for you. Just finished reading The entire thread. Very encouraging and refreshing for me as I spend most of my time on forum for modern VWs. I really want to get into a car that I can tinker with without throwings CELs.

SWEET on the Photoshop offer, will one of these work? I was thinking fenders, rear quarters, doors and bumpers in green, and keeping the rest in black. Thanks again!

I used to be a VW man myself and hoping to get another same day soon. I have had a 1980 VW Rabbit diesel, 1971 Bug, 1970 Karmen Ghia, 1994 Golf. I passed a cool VW performance shop this weekend while out bike riding. Here are 2 of his cars.

I have some good news and some bad news.

Good news... I found a 911 in fairly good condition, very nice car.

Bad news is that my wife of six years suddenly asked for a separation and said she will be filing for divorce. This complicates my chances to get the car I really want.

Any ideas?

Keeping the wife would be far less expensive than not. Tell the mother-in-law you are sorry for not being a fan. hope you figure it out. If you truly cannot then an old car certainly serves as quite a bit of therapy.

Buy the car and sell it to a really good friend for a dollar while you still have some money and before she lawyer's up...

I am trying to warm my wife up to the idea of the car... but man, sorry to hear about the separation. I would just wait until it is all settled, sounds like you have enough to worry about right now, another car will come along.

Thanks so much for these. I love the black fuchs, I might have to consider that despite what I do. Hmm, let me do some experimenting.
