Red face 915 Trans Help

I have an 1981 SC Targa and it has about 110k on it.
I was driving home today and I was in first gear and floored it to get around a very slow truck and then BANG I heard a loud pop and clanking and then there was no acceleration. I coasted to the side of the road and pulled over thinking the half shaft had broken but it was fine. The engine runs fine but when I try ANY gear and slowly release the clutch all I hear is clanking in the transmission.
Did my Transmission explode? I thought 915 transmissions were pretty bullet proof. Any advice would be very helpful.

You need to get the car up on a lift to properly check the CV joints/axles. If all is well then you must drain the trans oil and check the drain plug magnet for debris.

My CV once sheared all 6 bolts off the trans flange and the bang was the heat exchanger getting destroyed (good excuse to get headers). The time my 915 exploded was similar but sounded way more "expensive" when it let go

It was the drivers side cv shaft the bolts broke off on the wheel side.
