How do you evacuate the A/C in an 84 911
![]() I have an R-12 system and I would like to recharge it myself. What equipment do I need to evacuate the system, and how is it done properly? Help! |

If you use the search function...It should give you a good idea of what to do and what tools needed to do it

You need a high end vaccum pump, you're not going to be able to buy r12 without a licensce . take it to an a/c specialist.

RSTARGA has good advice, this is not a job for a beginner and the cost to a pro would be less than guages, tools etc...AND if it leaks, they can diagnose it on the spot.

If you do service your A/C you may want to use Envirosafe refrigerant. A little goes a long way and really comes out cold. No special paperwork to fill out. No EPA. Fantastic!

Are you dead set on becoming the master of your R12 system or do you just want it to blow cold again?
Is there any R12 in there now? Meaning can it just be topped off or is your system empty? If empty, how long has it been empty? |

I just had a '92 ford Aerostar, front and rear A/C, converted to r134 for $160.00.

EPA states he can't go to ES12 in a HFC-12 original car, and in his state of California they are serious about it.
1995-1998 Enforcement Actions under Title VI of the Clean Air Act | Ozone Layer Protection - Regulatory Programs | US EPA Quote:
He can convert to 134a however, or recharge with r12 of course.

If you have not fixed the leaks (original hoses, o-rings, maybe the compressor, replace the drier, adding a low/high pressure switch) then recharging is not worth the effort.
But..... what you would need is an ac vacuum pump, service gauges and the procedures. If you want to insure you don't have leaks along the way, then you would need refrigerant oil dye, a black light and more preferred is a an electronic leak detector. If you intent is a 'one time try to DIY' you may find it less costly to simply have a repair shop handle it. Otherwise there are dozens of threads here in Pelican discussing the procedure as well as the obstacles and solutions (does not make sense to re-post the same info over and over again). |
