Bingo. Then it's a no stories, turn key car. Much easier to sell, I think you should easily be able to get $30-35k out of it. Nice driver G50 cars are fetching $25k pretty routinely it seems, the days of cheap Carreras are gone.

Mileage, mileage, mileage. Same car with the usual 90-125k mi but still in excellent condition is worth a good $10K less than this one is likely to be.

I always knew this day was coming though didn't think it would be so soon. In the long haul anything air cooled will be collectible, even 74-77s and 964s. At the same time there are hills and valleys. 74-77s and 964s are valleys and 3.2 Carreras with G50s and 993s are peaks.

This dude is 100% right on the money. Invest a little with a turn key ready to go car, and you will reap the benefits in a higher sale price. After all, when you are looking for a new car, are you more attracted to one where the owner hasn't maintained/serviced it (which raises even more doubt about what else might be deferred maintenance) or one which is ready to roll and needs nothing? The guy with the real cash will jump for the turn key. The poor guy who wants to beat you down on the price will have the same thoughts about deferred maint and try to beat your price down. It's simple math.

No need to get snippy. At this point the last of the true 911's are probably going to be like the early 911's went a few years ago. I'm in no way trying to start an escalating value thing here.

As the last of the torsion bar 911's approach 25 years old certainly the cars will hold value and perhaps increase more rapidly than in the past. Most likely the better/original cars will benefit even more so.

Pretty harsh....

It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay...very subjective to say the least.
I think we can safely assume not worth 40k to you.

Someone in Seattle recently sold an '89 with 14K miles for $65K...and there were 4 or 5 other buyers willing to pay in the $50's for that same car. Don't know who/where the buyer was, but low-mileage cars seem to be fetching a very good premium nowadays. I wouldn't want a garage queen because I like to drive my cars, but hey, to each his own.

Ha ha, well not as stupid as you obviously, as I know that a 22k 1989 coupe will go for high 30's easy these days. Check Sloan and similar dealers where they would be asking 50k plus.

You are probably a person who would have said a 1973 911s is not worth 20k five years ago

Anyway the owner is free to ask what ever he wants and my opinion is ask just under 40k for an 1989 SA with 22k.

Too bad my '89 is a targa...I would happily sell it for $40K...even $35K.

This one seems to be the twin of yours, same specs, slightly more mileage. Not that I think the price is realistic, but someone thinks it's worth it:

I need to take some. Hard to believe but I do not have any current pictures. The only pictures I have got posted right after I bought the car. That would have been Feb. 2007.

David,

I'm confident that, if you would get the maintenance work done and join us for just one of our club drives through the Hoosier National Forest on State Road 66, you would not sell that car.

Regards,

I see the car everyday in my garage and I know it is a special car being the last of the torsion bar cars and certainly in the condition it is in makes me hesitate at the thought of selling.

If I could find a shop reasonably close (car would most likely need flat bedded due to a draggy caliper) that had a great reputation for work on air-cooled Porsche's I might be swayed to at least get everything the car needs done. Then perhaps I would reconsider selling as I most likely would end up driving it again.

At that if I still had mixed feelings about the car it would be a least be a very sell-able "turnkey" car.

My car doesn't have that low mileage but it's pretty damn low and I never plan to get rid of mine. BMWDavid, if you do sell it, please do post what you sold for. I think it'd be cool to see what your car went for as compared to the number I have in my head.

Not yet, still thinking about what to do. I think I'll end up taking it to a shop that has a good rep for work on Porsche cars. I'll get everything that needs done all sorted and get a good detailing done.

Then I'll step back to see what I have. Most likely I'll be very pleased and end up keeping the car. This will make some of my fellow chapter PCA guys happy!

David,

I think that you are on the right track after all the advice. Check with your fellow PCA guys for a good shop and spring for the maintance. detailing sounds good too. You will probably end up keeping it.
