Got it!! 72 911T Lean-to find!!

Well it has taken a couple months but I finally got the paperwork on a car that I purchased. 1972 911T with the original motor and trans. Has 14 years of dirt and dust on it right now. Definitely a project but it is all there, except for one door handle, one heat exchanger and both axles. I put it on a lift and hit it with an Ice Pick. Found one spot of rust in an odd spot. It is just in front of the recess for the steering rack on the vertical part of the inner fender on the drivers side. It is about 4-5 inches long and 1 inch tall. No other rust I can find. I did find some other interesting things. I was originally worried about the lower rockers because they were smooth and not pebbled but once I started poking around I realized, when it was painted, they smoothed both rockers and took off the aluminum trim pieces that were originally on the car. Car does have an S bumper, S trim and TTG lights right now. Not sure if they are original to the car, they are Genuine Porsche parts, but have a COA on the way already. That may help confirm. Car was originally metallic gold, then painted 1972 MBZ tobacco brown and then this "teal" color. Car came with the correct flat sixes on it (I needed some rollers so it is wearing deep 6's right now).

Local mechanic had it for years. I offered him $$ for it several times. He said owner would never sell. Owner got in a pinch when above mechanic sold his shop and came to me. If I was not so far along on my 73 I think i would give more thought to moving all the parts over to this one.

yes, pics of the "lean-to"

1972 is the best year for the body with the oil tank location and funky door

I like the teal - what are your plans for it? stock, hot rod, ??

What direction are you going? Full resto to factory, R, RS, RSR?

That is exactly the car that I am looking for. Nice purchase.

Not sure exactly what I am going to do. Here is a pic of the current project. If I was not so far along with the 73 I might think about changing everything over to this car.

(This pic is about 6 months old. All lights installed now with all new brakes and suspension. Going for motor in 10 days hopefully.)

This is why I always ask mechanics, shop owners, regular people with derelict cars about them and leave my number... Someday, they call, maybe years later, but they call. I tried for several years to get a 356 that just languished, covered, outside a shop on the North side of Chicago in the late 90s, that call to buy never came.

I'm not sure why anyone would color change a 911 tobacco brown, period 70s color or not, I can't do brown. The teal seems to work on the car though.

Good luck with the project!

The tobacco brown is a bit odd but was interesting for me. It is a 1972 Mercedes color and the color of the first Mercedes my father bought new in 72. Still remember that car to this day. Dad tells the story of going to see my stepmothers parents for the first time. Her mother asked what color it was and my father proudly pronounced it tobacco brown to which my grandmother snorted up a big ol' lugie and spit on the trunk and then aske "That kind of tobacco?????"

Oh, the memories we have!!!

DEA sent out the rubber stamp denial. We are now negotiating. It will work out.

Evrybody thinks they're a comedian!!! In all seriousness I am sort of surprised I have not taken them off and tossed them yet. The car has been in my shop for 2 months.

hwgunner..........couldn't resist, when I bought my 73 914 2.0, it had the same mirrors too, the PO told me that they were "rare", I laughed. I removed them when I got the car home.

It was funny. PO told me how much better he liked these over the originals. He said he would give me the originals if he finds them in his garage. I still have my toes crossed!!

Great find, now to bring her back to life. 'S' front bumper, sigh, still looking. BTW, that tool box in the first photo, does that come with a step ladder or did you used to play basketball? Out of interest what is the chassis number, mine is a RHD 1972 911T: 911250048
