Kendall GT-1 20W 50?

I'm pretty sure nobody is up for another long oil thread, so I'll try to limit the scope of this. I use conventional oil in my 3.2, and per input here on other threads about my current Castrol GTX am considering other conventional options. The Kendall GT-1 is available locally to me, and says on its label is good for flat tappet motors, with a high ZDDP. It also says it is a racing oil.

Has anyone used this oil and have an opinion, or have any advice on it? As a "racing" oil, would it last to regular change intervals or would I be looking at more frequent changes? Any input appreciated.

My engine is bone stock, not a track car, just an occasional run to red line during fun runs.

I don't see why local availability would make one wish to try something that is not proven, when known-good choices (such as Brad Penn) are available from our host with free shipping?

Geez, I almost didn't post because I figured the 'know-betters' would come out. The question wasn't about synthetics. I was just hoping to hear about this oil, if anyone had used it, and their impressions. I do appreciate the comment on the new formula having lower ZDDP.

FWIW... I use Kendall in my 3.2, based on far too many hours of research. I buy it by the case from Amazon, though. It's hit and miss to find it locally.

20w50 has 1200 ppm of ZDDP.

Thanks, Brad. I obviously don't know a lot about this, but this oil should be good for normal intervals? As a 'racing' oil it isn't built for short run use?

Its not a short interval racing only oil. it is fine for your every 3000 mile interval.

I used it for years... recently I switched to VR1 because its easier to get locally and has the same amount of the good stuff... about 1200 ppm as well.

Thanks

Why would anyone care about getting something locally when it is available from Amazon, cheaper and with no tax and no shipping charge. You can buy it with a few clicks of a mouse and have it delivered for free, right to your doorstep. I buy Brad Penn 20W50 from Amazon, for $78.38 a case, total out of pocket. They arrive 3 days after I order.

i've used it for decades in the shop and at the porsche dealer where i worked in the 70s. it still has sufficient zddp, but not quite as much as brad penn. the price sure went up. $749 for a 55 gallon drum.

Agree with John, used the stuff for 30+ years, never had a single oil-related problem - in a very busy P-car only shop! But then they messed with a good thing and added the Titanium stuff. I know shops/mechanics who have stopped using it for that reason only, all have switched to VR1. Would I have switched? In all honesty, I don't have enough info to answer that question.

not to go round again on this but 1200 is the min, so prob ok, but I never cared for the min especially when QC isn't perfect and I've seen oil evaluations that vary widely.

Oils: What motor oil should I use? Which oil is best for my Porsche or aircooled engine?

I've used it for a few years now -before and after the addition of titanium- and probably close to 100,000 miles. Works fine, and the test results from our oil lab have come back with acceptable (to me) results (sorry, can't find the sheets at the moment). I change my oil every 5,000 miles or so.
Brad Penn is something like $9+ per quart around here, and Kendall is about half the price.
Also, Kendall GT-1 a regular street oil with detergents and whatnot.

+1 to the above.

I cannot get free delivery here from Amazon or anybody else, but I can buy Kendall by the case locally, so I do.

No problems, far as I know.
