played musical seat today

Randy, this looks very similar to yours. We gotta make sure we stay nice and trim to fit into these Recaro bucket seat. Its a good way to maintain a steady weight since it would such a shame to ever give up to what I sometimes refer to as "the holy grail of early 911 sports purpose seats". I was using this factory sport seat for my passenger side but had to borrow it so I can use it for my driver's seat for the Viper green 73 E. I have to keep reminding myself, its only on loan and it'll have to go back. In the meantime, since I haven't sold this other Koenig bucket seat, it went back as a passenger seat again.

an afternoon of playing musical seat between the 73 E and the 69S is what resulted in the 2nd photo below.

take note, no ashtray opening on the lower knee pad, clock and radio delete too. No comfort features found here, I can do without the other ammenities. Only the essentials, one very tight fitting Recaro driver's bucket, race belts, Momo Prototipo and re-worked Weltmeister short shifter and the instrument pod in front of me. Its all I need for what I like to do, early 911 sports driving.

its not for everyone but it suits me just fine. I'll keep it this way.

sorry about that.

The seats are Recaro SPG Pole Positions, covered in leather by a company called FVD in Germany. They are a duplicate of the seat Porsche used in the 89 Speedsters and the 964 RS, I believe. They're very light and strong, the cushions are removable, and the seat is very comfortable. The only downside is the cost, which is $1100 per bucket. (Ouch!)

I do have a roll bar, and the red thing on the driver's kneepad (in the previously posted picture) is the new nozzle for the fire suppression system. In a cool bit of engineering, the release cable handle for the fire system is built into where the ashtray went. You lower the ashtray on race day, and the red emergency handle is right there. What's more, a race day ashtray replacement also holds the hotlap timer display, just below the fire handle. Tyson Schmidt at TRE Automotive put it together.

Here's another angle:

i thought it looked familiar

Jack,

I was trying to figure what those seats were and rightaway image of a 964 Speedster came to mind. But it also looked so much like the Recaro SPG seats I just sold. I guess I could say I was right on both counts. Though it may not be an early 911 look, I'm also in tune with the modern but real cool lookin seats like those in your black beauty. It looks gorgeous and though cost you a pretty penny, I think its worth the bucks for what you ended up with. The best of both world, aftermarket Recaro SPG race seat with a flavor of a factory made sports seat.

Like my vintage Recaro ST seat, you'll need to stay trim and fit like you are now otherwise, you may have to have a pair of the wider Recaro Pole Position made up.

cheers,

Love those floormats and the Porsche script in the door openings.

Richard/Dickster

Is that a rear spoiler and no front spoiler?

yes! don't know the original spec. but i wouldn't have thought it got only one from new?

anyway, i have recently fitted the lip spoiler which makes the front look much neater, and the high speed driving is very stable now (steering feels firmer at speed).

Cris, OK, I'm confused. The radio/ashtray delete is on the 69S or the 73E?? In either case, an extremely rare option, no? -- Curt

Here's a shot of the interior, pre-restoration and pre-MOMO. I don't have a current shot -- yet.

The car is going to be off the road for 6-8 weeks while the MFI pump is being rebuilt by Gus Pfister, and I'm just not in a pro-my-911 kinda mood. Sorry.

Btw, those Recaros are really black!

OK I am sick of all your nice interiors.

Here is a pic of my 77, it has NO carpet (new one in my garage but targa leaks right now so.....)

And here is my homemade door panels.

they are cheap vinyl, and I will probably redo them this winter, but they are great for the price.

Did you buy a kit for the door panels or just the hardware? I want door panels like that.

Jack Olsen,
Another question for you, did you change out your dash cover with a later model?

Jeff check the archives. I just bought the hardware and made the rest. But like I said above I used cheap vinyl and I will probably replace it this year.

I had an opportunity today to take some images of my interior, post the rebuild.

The MOMO is incredible! IMO, it's one of the best modifications you can make.
