Thumbs up Cross Country Trip 2013

Preparations are complete and the final countdown begins. On Saturday, March 23 my father and I will begin our epic journey from Charleston, SC to the West coast.

Over the course of two weeks we will drive our two SCs through some of the most gorgeous areas of the good ole US of A - painted desert, petrified forest, grand canyon, hoover dam, joshua tree, mohave, sequoia nat forest, golden gate bridge, route 1 from San Fran to Los Angeles. The cars will be shipped back and we will fly home from LA on April 6.

I'll post routes and pictures as we go.

Cheers!
Craig

What an experience........

Craig,

You and your Dad would surely have a very memorable driving experience. My son and I did it last November via Route 70 from Philadelphia to Carmel. And would like to do it again starting from West to East.

Take some pictures along the route and share with us. Stay safe and don't over speed and pass a state trouper's cruiser like I did in OK!!!!! Good luck.

Tony

Day 1 > Charleston,SC to West Memphis, AR (720 miles - 10.5 hours)

We were hit a with a ton of rain today - drizzle, mist, downpours. Despite the conditions, traffic was minimal and the roads were in great condition. No construction delays.

Days 1 -3 will be our "high tailing it" days. Once we reach the painted desert on our way to Sedona, AZ I'll get some quality stuff on here.

Lol, that looks like half of our OLOA route this year... we don't get to stop and take breaks though.

It depends, last year we hit High Plains Raceway just outside of Denver. This year I think we're hitting Talladega, then New Orleans and that's as far west as we get before heading all the way back east to Daytona. Granted it's my least favorite event of the race season, but I wish we'd do a west coast OLOA one year and hit some cool west coast tracks.

Day 2

Day 2 > West Memphis, AR to Amarillo, TX (717 miles - 10.5 hours)

This morning started off very cold with rain and fog. Winds were a steady 20mph with 40mph gusts. Through portions of Oklahoma we had heavy flurries. Eventually we made it to the backside of the front and found sunny skies.

Driving was smooth and steady. Great roads and very little traffic. However, OK City was pretty rough and cops were everywhere - seriously everywhere.

Both cars are performing extremely well - it is incredible how they just hum along. I've used a 1/4 qt of oil over 1400 miles which is nice to know. We are averaging around 20 mpg which is acceptable given the fact that we are running steady at around 80-85mph and we were in a head wind all day today. Forgot to mention that we can only get 90 octane here in TX.

Dad pulling up next to me:

Sunny skies in Texas:
