YAZ: be prepared to provide your VIN to Jim Ellis Porsche when you call them.

Thanks,

Here's the current porsche number. 999-652-376-12 It's about $78 cents at Jim Ellis in your neck of the woods. (Same State anyways...)
They can probably get you a new bottom plastic piece for the pins, yours looks pretty trashed...
I'll bet you'll get it faster from them than me mailing one. If not, PM me and I'll mail one.
Bill is right as usual, it just helps to know the part number.
Dennis, Your help in this has been outstanding. I will call Ellis ASAP! Too bad I am jammed up with appointments all day or I'd just make the drive up. But, that is not possible so mail will do... of course, less expensive to mail then fuel to Atlanta and back.

I looks like my measurements pretty close then... eyeball and ruler.

Wanted to circle back on this thread with an update.

Rx'd the needed pin (today) from Loren at Systems Consulting. He did this on his own accord at no expense to myself nor Yaz. Big thanks for the gesture, Loren,..as we owe you one (favor) in return.

Hopefully, we'll get this relay socket squared away (maybe tomorrow?) then get to test out the repaired DME, subsequently getting Yaz' '88 back on the road soon.

Don't see this failure too often but could make someone chase their tales should they be t/s'g a problem, especially after dropping in a few relays right off the bat,..then on to other things (assuming the relay is not the problem). Yeap: the relay was NOT problematic yet the female side (receptacle) offered a failure.

Aside from getting the DME relay socket repaired, something's telling me to doublecheck anything that could have caused this particular condition. Yaz stated that the female pin just crumbled upon disassembly. We just want to be sure that any overcurrent conditions are not present as this could have fatigued this female socket pin,..or water (shorting).....I don't know, just yet, but want to be cautious and thorough on the repair.

I would state again: Loren found the DME to have failed. It happened to be an IC that had failed,..and not a failure he typically sees. As to the IC failure (itself), he determined that a few sensor inputs had failed on this IC, possibly being caused by a high voltage arc. Suggested that all spark plug connections be closely checked (seated well),..and make notice of cable dress.

In any event, will follow-up once we get the DME relay socket put to bed.

Again: A big thanks to Loren for providing this part. Thanks to all who have contributed here, as well. Let's see where this goes, eh?

Would love to see YAZ driving that '88 sometime tomorrow!!!!!!!!

Best!

Doyle

Although it's been a week since the last update, Yaz and I finally timed our schedules to get to work on this. Today was the day. Of course, it ends up being on a morning after spending Patron Tequila time (shots) with friends so my spirits weren't what they normally are, but after sweating out a gallon of fluids, things started to come together........

Loren's pin fit perfectly and the receptacle was in good enough shape to reuse. BIG THANKS, LOREN!!!!! Loren had also repaired and checked out Yaz's DME previously so we were anxious to make sure it was good to go. DME pin repair was pretty uneventful and everything went back together ok (after triple checking the pin re-insertions). She fired right up, idled like a charm and ran perfectly for a 15-20 minute run. He let me drive (probably out of pity for me since my 89 is in the paint shop for restoration). Sure felt nice driving a 911 again after nearly four months of 911 abstinence. First time I've driven a Targa...his clutch is a good bit stiffer than mine, releasing at a higher point in the engagement and noticed that his shifter bushing is shot. Very tight car with great handling (although I didn't really toss it around). No "creaks" or moans whatsoever. Just a great feel!

SO: moral of the thread story is to check your DME relay receptacle pins!!!!! One could throw DME relays at such a "condition" never achieving a start condition.

VERY glad I had a chance to look at YAZ's ride, as I found a fuel leak right on top of the left side of the manifold! WOW,....after studying the situation, someone had provided a very incorrect repair of the T'd fuel lines going to the fuel rails. This could have been BIG trouble at any given point,..freaked me out. I'll probably start a different thread relating to this finding.

In any event: SUCCESS!!!!

Thanks to Loren for the DME repair, as well as getting the DME receptacle pin to us. Thanks to YAZ for trusting me to work on his car, and being quite patient with the few weeks it took to get her back on the road.

As well, thanks to all fellow PP's who contributed their time, offering information. This is a great group!!

BEST to all!

Doyle

Pelican has the pins and the housing. Pretty darn inexpensive for the housing, pins not so much...
Pins:
Electrical Pin Bushing 0035452626 - Genuine Mercedes-Benz - 003-545-26-26 | Pelican Parts
Housing:
Cable Connector Housing 0065458028 - Genuine Mercedes-Benz - 006-545-80-28 | Pelican Parts

Need to search for the lid still.

I believe this is the correct lid for the 6 pin housing above.

Mercedes-Benz Plug Cover - 0095453028 - Genuine Mercedes

I'm looking for a Carrera 3.2 DME relay plug, socket, which I believe Porsche lists as NLA. Will be awesome if this MB part works. Sure can't beat the price!

As of August 2019, URO released an updated version of our DME relay 911 618 154 00 for the 1984-1989 3.2L, Pelican should have it in stock soon. Our prior version of the relay wasn't the most reliable, so we redesigned the internal mechanism to be a more accurate reproduction of OEM. If anyone purchased our first-gen relay 911 618 154 00 and had any problems with it, please PM or email your purchase details (date, retailer, order number, shipping info) to "sales at uro parts dot com" and we'll be happy to send you the second-gen version as a warranty replacement.
