Need some help with DME relay receptical pin sourcing

We've made discovery on a failure of ONE the DME relay receptacle (female side) pins. All we need is where to find this replacement pin for this receptacle side so that we may replace it. No luck at the FLAPS or radio shack. Will continue to research through the weekend but thought maybe some of you fellow PP's can cut to the chase here.

Any help is appreciated.

BEST!

Doyle

Take a picture of the socket and post it
If it's the same as I think it is, I know the part number and where to get them.
Does the socket pin look like this?

Have him take a picture of the pin, and get some measurements in metric.(OD, ID, Length etc)
I may have what you need from some old harness parts I seem to be accumulating these days.
If I have it, I'll let you know and mail you one.

Edit: Have him compare the pin to the one in your 14 pin engine harness connector. If it's the same I have one for you. (That is the pic I posted)

Headed out for a while today, I'll check back this afternoon or evening.

The pins are available through a Porsche dealer, you just need to know the size in mm
0.50 x 1.0
0.75 x 1.5
etc

Greetings~

First, a few accolades are in order! Doyle deserves a huge round of applause from our community as he has been most helpful in helping me get my car back in running order. He has been exceedingly enthusiastic in donating his time and brain power in working out a solution to my problem. His assistance renews ones faith the population. And proves that the old joke about the difference between Porsches and Porcupines its not always right!

Second, Loren at Sytems Consulting, Manhattan Beach, CA has devoted his time very quickly in getting my DME repaired and back to me without delay. Loren has also returned my calls late into Saturday afternoon. He was most willing to go out of his way to provide insight and has gone out of his way to access the necessary parts I need to get my car back on the road. His level of customer service would be hard to surpass. A huge thanks is owed him! Thanks Loren!

Dennis, Thank You for your input and offer of help! And yes, the pin you have pictured appears to be correct. Will attempt to get some measurements on the pin. But suffice to say it is the standard DME relay and was purchased here at our sponsor. I have both KAE and the genuine Porsche relays.

And so yes, Doyle is also correct with regards to the relay unit. It is the standard relay for the 28 pin relay used on the later 3.2 motor. Since I havent figured out how to post pics here yet I have snapped pics and forwarded them to Doyle for posting.

The actual pin/female that was destroyed by corrosion was the slot designated for "30" pin on the relay, which appears to be the pin getting power from the battery. Upon opening the casing of the "female recepticle" the 30 pin/slot essentially crumbled. Geez, I am luck to have been able to get the car back to my garage rather than becoming stranded in a remote location, or worse a busy stretch of roadway.

A back history on my car.... I am third owner, the second being a brief duration. It is a targa, and the first owner, a suffering health issues left it parked in the elements for a few years. Needless to say the seals leaked and allowed moisture to contaminate the failed part in question. That said, I have owned it now for 2 yrs and it has been my DD on sunny days.

I will try to get some measurements. Wish had a micrometer!

Again, I want to relay my great appreciation to fellow Pelicans for their assistance.

Best, yaz

Some more pics from Yaz:

I've asked him to get a pic of the pin and measurement, as well. My girl is in the shop for paint and interior restoration (about 100 miles away). I would think there would be no difference between my '89 and his '88 .

Standing by.

For sure, kudos to Loren at Systems Consulting. Extremely quick turn around (bad chip and solder fractured). We worked to get that DME shipped out 2nd day,..both directions. Loren picked up on this and got her immediately on the bench--fixed the same day he rx'd it,..price was very reasonable, as well. Kept us in the loop via telephone/email and , as Yaz noted, even made the callback to him on the weekend! Geeze,..what else could someone ask for? Expert work.

Yaz's diligence in furthering the T/S process nailed concern #2. A simple pin. Now for the business of getting hands on one. Great work, YAZ!

Almost there. Thanks Bill for your input,...Timmy: standing by.

Thanks to all within this great group. The best!

Doyle

Hello All,

As near as I can get with my measure devices, it appear that the length of the male pin on the relay - that portion that fits into the female connector, is 10 almost 11 cm in length. It is about 3.5 cm in width.

Thanks for all help.

I show the (my) DME relay male pins at 1mm in length and .3mm in diameter. mmmm...(no micrometer here,..just a ruler). This would be for DME part number 911 618 154 00 (15 Amp relay)-German.

I'll go check information in the P.E.T.

Are sure you don't mean 1 cm long and 3 mm in dia ? They would be remarkably small otherwise !

This relay serves to provide power to the DME and to the fuel pump (through different contacts...no round red relay pump used in this config).

Sounds like the right part at 3mm id and 11.9 mm using my cheap HF digital micrometer.
Here's the current porsche number. 999-652-376-12 It's about $78 cents at Jim Ellis in your neck of the woods. (Same State anyways...)
They can probably get you a new bottom plastic piece for the pins, yours looks pretty trashed...
I'll bet you'll get it faster from them than me mailing one. If not, PM me and I'll mail one.
Bill is right as usual, it just helps to know the part number.

Thanks for the reply, Dennis. I would replace the plastic piece, as well. I'm sure YAZ will pick up on this and give Jim Ellis a call.

Thanks!
