Color for my 911

I need someone to help tell me what color is on my Porsche. If weather permits I will take a photo tomorrow.
The paint code is not on the left jam of my 81SC I have looked everywhere and can not find it!!
The color is strange.....It looks like a brownish orange, yet more orange than brown. I have looked at sephia brown, cashmere beige, signal orange, caramel brown and no luck.
It is more like a saddle brown with orange tint (if that makes sense). It just has more 0range than brown and is an original color.
Everything I see pictures of is either to brown or to orange. Anyone have a clue to what this color is?
Koo

Red book suggests...

perhaps Caramel - 524? Look at PaintScratch.com for 1981 Porsche and you can see color samples. They aren't always dead on, but usually close enough for a quick ID. Hope this helps.

What color is it?

OK here is the color I need to know what the heck it is. I would agree that you say it is Caramel Brown, going by Paintscratch.com. Problem that I have....all the 911's that people post as being Carmel Brown, is true brown!! So if anyone has this color or knows what the heck it is....Please let me know. I am painting the car Black, unless this is a super rare color that I have!

Don't change the color! That is a good looking shade and there can't be many around.

My '81 is a pretty rare color too. I don't know what it is about '81's. Either the paint guy at Porsche was a little whacked out or people just special ordered every color that they had never seen but there was definitely some thing up in '81.

I forgot to tell you, I love my color and I love yours too. Don't change it. There might have been some whacked out people in '81 but God bless them.

Re: Color

This color has really been growing on me! I was 100% sure on painting it black, yet over the last week I can really picture this color slicked out....looking great! I appreciate your feedback as I am leaning towards having a "unique" color over a traditional one! I really like the idea of having something rare, much like yours! In which I do like very much!

Thanks for the feedback. I truely appreciate everyone's input on this, being that a black out on this color would be quite extensive.

The color is different. And very cool. A fresh coat may renew your enthusiasm!

To me it looks close to Peru Red, which was a standard color in the early 70's and a special color on my 77S. According to Mark Haab's 911 authenticity book it was not offered after 77, but WTF. Your photo looks a little lighter but close. Peru Red is red with a little brown in it. I love the color and don't see many around.

Koo,

That looks a lot like '019' Gulf Orange with a bit of age on it. It is a color with a very significant winning racing history ... Can-Am, Indy, F1, and endurance racing from the '60's and '70's!

I'll second the weird '81 colours. I've only seen one other similar to mine on the road. Friends always comment on how they thought the car was white when they first saw it at night.

Cheers!

Hey IceblueSC:

I have the same color for my 83 SC and was told that the color is glacier blue. Don't have the color code handy. Looks like white from a distance especially at dusk or low light conditions. What color is your interior?

can't help with the paint color, but I like it. my vote is to keep it as is.

You might try looking in the trunk, on the right side, under the carpet for the paint code or on the right door jamb.

Koollay-

My monitor is a bit screwed up, so I am not sure I am even seeing the correct color. However, here are a few (other)possibilities:

443 (Copper Brown Metallic)
464 (Tobacco Metallic)
474 (Rosewood Metallic)
811 (Kiln Red Metallic)

color

Ok, I can see that no one can help out for sure. I was hoping by posting this that someone else had this color. I have searched the entire car and their are no labels stating the color. I am 100% sure that the color is original and show no evidence of any removing the paint label (going by no rivot holes or glue from label left behind). I am now pretty damn sure, going by the feed back that I do indeed have a unique and special color.

I just need someone to tell me as to what the heck I have, so I can move forward with getting the proper color. My car is going in for a repaint, yet the original color will save hours of time and $$$ in color blocking.......

Personally I think it is either continental orange or caramel brown. The color is really not faded at all. The picture on this site is as close as you see.
Thanks for all of your help.

Could you get the Porsche Kardex or whatever it was called to see what the car was ordered with.
Ice Blue SC...that's the color I saw on a car here in Dallas. It is REALLY light blue.
