Fuse box list
This morning my 1971 911t Targa had a little problem. Every right turn I attempted the horn sounded. After a very embarrassing drive to work I went into the bonnet to pull the fuse. The top fuse box had a list of all the fuse descriptions on the internal side of the cover. Amazing it was still in tact after 42 years. The cardboard/paper was in good condition albeit a little yellow. No Horn fuse in this box though. I unscrewed the second box but unfortunately there was no paper list in this cover. Therefore I couldn't pull the appropriate fuse. The manual was no help either. 1) is there a fuse for the horn? And 2) I'd love to replace the missing list if any pelicans know where I could locate and print one off?

It sounds like your horn is grounding due to a worn wire or something like that. Pull the steering wheel to investigate. Our cars are small and there are a lot of drivers in SUVs out there who like to chat on the phone while driving. You'll want this fixed properly.

The horn has no fuse, it is controlled by a relay, located just forward of the fuse blocks. Pull the relay, and the horn will cease to function. As to why the horn sounds when turning, there is likely a break in the insulation of the ground wire that goes up the steering column that grounds the wire when the wheel is turned.

Had a similar issue with the horn sounding when turning the wheel. Twist the center counter clockwise to remove and check the screws on the back. Mine were loose and caused the issue. Make sure rubber part is installed properly.
Second picture you can see the horn contact pin on the right side, make sure it is in good condition. Horn has no fuse, but it does have a relay by the fuse block. Pelican Parts - Porsche 911 Parts Listings & Diagrams ![]() ![]()

Jrichar:
Last August member pope posted a thread with "reproduction" fuse box labels for 70/71 cars, among others. Search this forum for Fuse Box Labels with pope as the author. I verified ithe thread is still there as of ten minutes ago. I downloaded the file and the the result is very nice to say the least. I printed on a heavy "card stock" paper, and protected it with a plastic laminating sheet. Both are available at any office supply store. I used a leather punch (Home Depot) for the center hole, but even the largest was too small, so it was augmented with a careful exacto knife slice. Use of double back tape completed the installation, as glue didn't work for me with the "eggcrate" side of the fuse cover.. Al |

Brilliant. Thanks guys. The problem was the horn contact pin. The casing was broken and therefore the wire was grounding. It is now insulated with some tape temporarily until the new pin comes from Pelican parts. To make the order worthwhile I am considering what else to buy. Also, Found Popes post on the fuse label thanks. An easy job for today.
