Vaseline on Fuch wheels

I have been reading about using vaseline on the Fuch wheels and would like to know if everyone has done that and what do you think? Are you still using vaseline?

I almost grabbed it last weekend - but ended up using a different method

something sounds goofy about this - but at some point I promise to give it a shot

Fuch wheel cosmetic......

Apply a thin coat of vaseline or petroleum jelly on your wheels and you'll be surprised how they look much better!!!!!! I have tried these before about 20 years ago and still use it occasionally.

Doesn't it attract dirt?

Not if you rub it in well and wipe off excess.

Interesting, isn't it, with all our chemicals and technology over the years, and here we are using a product that was not designed for the automobile, that's really cheap.

Just did it last week. Put on a thin film. Let it sit overnight, wiped it off before taking the rims to have new tires mounted. It does make the shiny parts look nice. Doesn't do much for the painted sections. As mentioned above it is recommended in the manual.

Funny, it brings back my slightly faded black centers and makes them look like new...or pretty close. It lasts a bit longer than I thought it would too. Probably 4-6 weeks depending on how often I wash the car.

It is best to leave a generous amount on for a few hours as it takes time to soak it up.

Does this work on the polished aluminum wheels? So clean them first and then apply the jelly? Does this make the wheels look good for a long time?

It is actually what Porsche recommends in the owner's manual. Works great and lasts a good while. The factory finish is a combo of paint on the center and anodized rim. Seems to work very well on both. I'm not sure about polished, uncoated wheels but it couldn't hurt to try.

It does not attract much dirt if buffed off. I have ancient jar that cost 12 cents!

Don't think so but not a big cost to try. It's to treat the anodized surface.

Yep the petroleum jelly is recommended on account of the anodized treatment of the "aluminum" areas of the wheel. So it's really not worthwhile to use it on wheels that have actual polished, non-anodized finish. Use quality metal polish on actual polished rims

Incidentally the PJ does do a nice job on the satin black paint! Just be sure to wipe it all off (several rags/towels needed) to avoid collecting brake dust & other dirts.

I use it on the tires (not wheels). Polish, for sure!

Best!

Use it all the time works great.Best if after applying leave in sunlight comes out like new. Last summer used it on the targa top and it came out like new. Also used on the targa roll bar came out great.

Vasoline provides the added benefit of a barrier to not allow much road grime, brake pad dust, etc. to grab onto the alloy base metal, even cat pee.

Wash off all with soapy water, then reapply.

Exactly,..I tried it on my Carrera tail and it performed quite well. Different kinda stuff, for sure.

Have been in to this "Gummi-Fledge" stuff recently,..works nicely,..but vasoline has it's own character,...hope I'm not "chemically" doing a bad thing.....(uh-oh).

BEST!

I Vaseline my black anodized Fuchs every few weeks (up to a month). It makes my 25 year old wheels with 170k miles on them look better than the wheels on my 6 year old car. Buffing off the Vaseline can be quite laborious when it's cold out as it tends to harden. I don't bother with letting it sit and "soak in". I wash the car (including the wheels - with car wash soap), wipe the Vaseline on with terrycloth, and then buff it off with a fresh terrycloth.

Not only does this bring a nice shine to wheels, but it also protects them from water setting up and damaging the anodized finish. It's one of the best exterior car-care products that I've ever used.
