911 weird ultra thin wire, what's it for?
Painted the front trunk of the 930.
In the front trunk, along the very front, are bundles of wires. I had to snip these, and just resoddered them all... Except one... The thinnest black wire of the bunch, has what looks like fiberglass strand in it... But no metal wire?? The wire is super small, tiny gauge... Leads to both headlight buckets, and dead ends there... What is this thing? Can't find it in the manuals... Is it important??? Almost looks like fiber optic wire, but they didn't have that in our cars in 1988 ![]() Any help appreciated. Bo |

Maybe part of a radar detector?

Long shot - Is it maybe a "pull lead"?
I deal with some commercial multi-strand cable that often buries in a wound filament in the core for support and to be used to pull the rest of the cable through a plenum so you don't stress the conductors. I'm not aware that any auto manufacturers are doing that. |

Its heat shrink wrapped in one of the two large bundles that run along the front wall. Its definitely original, not an add on.
It kind of looks like an antenna for a radio controled plane (limp, dangly, super thin). It looks like fiberglass strand in the wire, definitely doesn't bend like copper/etc... Every 911 has this, but what is it? I will see of I can take a pic, but I don't know if it will show up.... |
