Lucky you!
If it is full of fuel and sealed, it's an indication of proper storage. You usually have problems with dry fuel pumps, as minor corrosion at the roller cells appear during storage, causing the "new" pump to fail soon. Jens |

Somehow that doesn't seem right. I don't know for sure but I don't recall any fuel pump I ever got having fuel loaded in it before. I could very well be wrong on that however.

"Full of fuel"...as in real gasoline?
Maybe one of Wayne's boys just ripped it out of a parts car in the back lot. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |

Bosch has something called 'test fluid' that is recommended for injector testing, and also storage of MFI injection pumps.
My spare injector and fuel pump were capped and wet, but not full ... of some petroleum product, not unlike kerosene, when removed from the sealed factory box! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

Well, maybe they ran out of 'test fluid' the week your pump was boxed.

i, too purchased a fuel filter from PP. when it arrived via UPS, the box smelled so strongly of gas that i'm surprised UPS didn't think it was a malotov cocktail. thank god the UPS guy didn't smoke in the truck !
i assumed it had something to do with keeping it lubed. i installed it and it worked just fine. |

Looks like were talking about 2 different things. I bought my fuel filter from the local P dealer. No gas smell at all. Even if a fuel pump needs to be maintained wet, there is no way UPS would allow hazardous gas to be sent through normal channels. I believe there are strict laws regarding the transport of hazardous substances (special containers, etc). The unibomber would love this one. . .
Wayne. . .are you out there? [This message has been edited by Mike Feinstein (edited 08-28-2001).] |

Maybe the workers at Bosch are just sloppier these days than they were 20 years ago ... I'm sure the pumps are tested before capping, boxing, and shipping! Somebody probably figured it saves 30 seconds of production time not to dump all of the test fluid out before capping.

I recently bought a Facet Silvet Top fuel pump that does not need separate regulator for the carbs. This was also full of "fuel", and capped. I think there is supposed to be to keep out the corrosion. Besides, I think they test the units at the factory, thus the "fuel".

But Fuel FILTERS for sure are not tested or stored wet, as there are no mechanical moving parts inside. Filters should come bone dry!!!
Can you imagine to buy a "new" filter which has been "tested" ???? If they would have tested the filter for its capability, then dirt particles would have been filtered out already-so you will no longer get a new filter but a contaminated one. For the pumps, its a different story. They are stored wet. Maybe different suppliers use different stuff (gasoline, kerosene, petroleum, alcohol. I once returned a broken fuel pump which quit after only 2 weeks of operation to the dealer. He sent it in to the manufacturer and the reason for failure was confirmed to be corrosion at the roller pump cells due to improper (dry) storage. Got a new one with apologies. Jens |

Thanks guys for the info, this new pump is so much more quiet my old one. I beleave the noise was created by more drag inside the unit.I guess my pump went bad causeing it to draw more current thus creating heat and eventualy melt down of wires and the relay.
P.S I don't no what I would do with out you guys so I installed a new computer in my garage, now I have easy access to this site. BOB ALBO |
