Grrr!

So I went to the movies tonight (for those of you following my exploit's, this one's a programmer/web designer). After the movies, I put the top down in preparation for a nice late-night drive with my date. I'm pulling out of the parking lot, go to put on some tunes; I reach out for the stereo and my hand goes all the way thru the dash! Whaaa? Yup! The stereo is GONE !

It's not so much the financial impact; it was ~$350 Sony head unit. Or the physical damage - the dash facing is pulled up and torn a little. It's the principle of the thing. But in these days of phony 10-Q's and whatnot, principle doesn't mean much.

The positives: I didn't have the car locked, so they didn't hack up the top getting in. The stereo is way cheaper than a top! They also didn't touch the CD changer, or anything else in the car for that matter.

This was at the "Cinedome" at 80 & Greenback.

Thom that really sucks, It makes you feel violated doesnt it, well like you said the good thing is the top is not destroyed, well maybe its time for an alarm, leave the door unlocked and maybe it will scare them away, but as most alarms no one cares if its going off but maybe itll deter a amature thief, Kevin

My thoughts are; track down who ever did this, give them $50 and say thanks for not trashing the dash.

As sad as it may seem, it could have been a lot worse. BTW did you score ok?

Although I now live in a very "crime free" state, it wasn't always that way. Wayyyy back when, I debated leaving my doors unlocked at all times. I'd rather have some dirtbag neatly snip out my stereo, than smash a window, and tear apart the dash, because the alarm is going off.
If someone wants something of yours, they will take it. One way or the other.
Sorry for your loss... just think of it this way. Now the car is 3 lbs. lighter :-)

Well you do this only once...then you remember to detach front face of the stereo and stash it away...

Sorry to hear that it happened, but it's happening all the time. It's mostly drug-addicts who do it...

It happened to me. Right in my driveway. They broke out the driver's window, tour out the back seat thinking they were getting into the trunk, (stupid bast@@@). The idiot leaned on the horn which woke me up. I got a bit of a baseball bat on the back of his shoulder as he was running off with my deck, and amp (Alpine). I've since installed an alarm that will warn you that there is an alarm if you touch or reach in the car before the alarm actually goes off. Alarms won't keep a real theif or crack head out of your car but it will keep most out. Plus it lowered my insurance rate.

that's sucks thom........being in the business of audio i see some results from VERY destructive thieves. consider yourself very lucky they didn't destroy parts of your car just to be stupid. someone broke into my fathers jeep cherokee to get the alpine i bought him and when they couldn't pry it out of his dash they proceded to slice all his leather seats and destroyed the dash. the repair bill was somewhere around $3500.

My repair bill was over $5500.00. They destroyed the back area. Ripped the targa bar all apart. And to make matters worse they took chips out of my freshly painted ($6000.00) exterior with paint chips from the broken window. When I found out they were after the stereo I was relieved because I thought he was parting my car.

Sorry to see that man. I have my cars broken into 3 times but never the 911's...so far. Not including having my house/apt broken into 3 times. Very frustating, to say the least. Good thing not much additional damage was done.

OH MAN! I can imagine how P!SSED you would have been! Agree tho, you still have your top intact and no 'serious' damage.

I hope the night with your date ended up on a much better 'note'

Bummer, dude.

In this day and age of $90 brand new Blaupunckt CD players (like from Midwest-us.com), I didn't think people stole car stereos much anymore.

I had a couple stolen from BMWs in the early 80's - was kind of an epidemic in LA in those years - I think that's when the phrase "BMW - Break My Windows" was coined. It sucks, but you are in a way a little lucky - in those days they'd take half the fricken' dash with them.

Yikes Thom that bites! I just recently put in a new Blaupunkt Miami Beach with the removable face plate. When you take the face off, the CD slit is closed off too. I think I may be better about taking that face with me. Its thin and fits in the pocket or my wife's purse. The head unit fit perfectly with no mods and kept with the fact that the car had originally had a Blaupunkt.

OT: What is that Porsche window switch to the left of your fresh air and heater controls?
