Door speaker spacers
Hi everyone. I finally modelled and cut some of these speaker spacers on my CNC router. They turned out great. I added a little chamfer along the round cut-out to make it fit more snug.
Material used was 3/8" HDPE. Waterproof, easy to machine, holds a screw as long as you drill a pilot hole. If you don't the HDPE will crack. Since I've got the tool path done on this, it's pretty easy to make another pair or another 100 pairs Would anyone else be interested these? I was thinking $30.00 a pair.

Nice. Made a pair of these myself (by hand) out of HDPE. Was fun, but a PITA -- with design, layout, cutting, finishing, etc. probably took me ~6 hours for a close-to-perfect fit. Made & kept templates just in case I ever need to do again.
Seeing these, however, I'd fork over $30 in a heartbeat. Well done.

it gives you a perfectly flat surface to mount a speaker to. as you can see by the pics the door in that area is anything but flat/smooth. i want a set. pm inc. -edit- do they have the rounded edges that are needed?

I should've done a better job of explaining.
First, credit to imcarthur for this post: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/357520-car-stereo-installation.html The spacer fits behind the door panel on a 3.2 Carrera and gives you a solid surface on which to mount your speaker. You screw it to the door then screw your speakers (through the door panel) to the spacer. I actually made 3 sets of these by hand and tossed all of them. The hand cut ones never seemed to fit properly. nineball, I only rounded the U shaped cut-out but it's not hard to round all the edges. I'll wait a bit to see what responses I get. |

the little nub part across from the U is needed too from what i remember of the various threads. also this works for the SC models too, not just the 3.2. not sure about the doors on pre-78 cars but if i had to guess i would say they are the same, maybe back to 74, but don't take my word for it.
if you decide to make some with the rounded areas i am in for a pair. if you don't i am probably still in for a pair, i'll just have to do the one automotive-related thing i hate to do the most - sanding. i have a set of dyns sitting here waiting to replace the alpines in my doors.

Sheet metal didn't really change in the 964 nor did the interior door panels, so I'm pretty sure it'll fit. I'm not 100% sure since I don't have access to a 964 to test it.

I also just checked into shipping and the cheapest I can find to the USA (I'm in Canada) is $17.00 by Canada Post. In Canada, it's $16.00 by Express Post.
If you're in the Toronto area, we could arrange a pickup. My shop is actually located in Burlington. Just thought I'd let you know so you can decide if it's worth it for you. |

i'm in cambridge and have a buddy who will probably pick up a pair for his sc.
so is the idea you drill holes in these to mount your own speakers ? in fact i might pick up a pair for mine. whats the spacing on those holes ? my speakers mount directly to the door and just the grills are in the covers. the holes didnt line up so it ended up being a little mickey mouse.

Spacers are done. I had enough material to make 3 sets so first come, first served. I will make more next weekend but I have to actually use the CNC for my real job
About the little half circle that's not complete cut-through - my car didn't need that part trimmed out so I didn't know exactly how big to make it. So I oversized it as compared to the diagram. The speaker cutout is exactly 5.5" in diameter. Make sure this matches with the dimensions of your speakers. $30.00 a pair. I'll also include 8 stainless steel screws that are the right size for the mounting holes. Paypal is best. My Paypal address is: henryDOTkimATtaylorkimDOTcom Replace the uppercase characters with the appropriate symbols. add: Shipping in the USA: $17.00 Shipping in Canada: $16.00 ![]() ![]()

No, I won't be able to make the fun run. To answer your question on the spacing, see the attached diagram. I used these exact measurements.

Really could have used these about 3-4 years ago when I installed my MY Quarts...would have saved me a TON of time and injured fingers.

Will paypal you immediately if so. Thanks! This is the one piece I'm stuck on not being able to make it to complete my stereo install. |

nineball is the only confirmed buyer so far so I have 2 sets left. Either way, I'll cut a bunch more this coming weekend. I just have to pick up some material.
