Can anyone tell me what this is???

So I just got my car back from some transmission repair and top end work and noticed this white wire (circled in red) just laying on the back of my fan shroud. I'm wondering what it is, what does it plug into, and where does it mount.

The attached photo is from when the engine was still out and shows the entire wire. I can't read the part number in the photo and of course now it's covered up. Thanks in advance!

Crank position sensor. (You have a 3.2litre car)

There would be a corresponding plug/socket in the engine bay which goes back to the ECU.

Thanks Peter,

Hard to believe this was missed, glad I haven't driven it yet. Guess I'll go look for the corresponding end that it plugs into

It's the little used test port. The crank position and reference sensors are the two black or mostly black wires coming from the lower left corner of your photo. The attached bracket bolts under the ICV under the throttle body. Crank position and reference sensors have square connectors. -J

Brandon, the connector has a clamp on it that bolts to the intake. It has a rubber plug in the end of it. It does not plug into anything, it is a diagnostic sensor for checking timing.

JAR -ok, so I just came back from looking and came to the assumption that that is where is mounts- thank you for validating. the second question I have is- is it important? it looks as though on the re-install that he tore the rubber housing and one of the wires within is very frayed.
