Just a guess, but I would assume that the seat belt part tongue has picked up a 1/2 twist somehow.

If you fold the belt over at a 45 degree angle, you should be able to move the tongue past the fold and untwist the belt 1/2 a revolution.

Good luck.

So, I enlisted the help on my son and we were finally able to squish a 1/2 flip through the belt buckle....
Now the problem is with the metal at the bottom that bolts to the door rail. Its angled the wrong way.

The Porsche belt that I took out is set up EXACTLY the same way Seat Belt Planet put there's together. can it be that Porsche designed it to be this way with a 1/2 twist in it?

I've been in contact with Steve from Seat Belt Planet and so far he's been great.
He has offered to flip the hardware so it doesn't have the 1/2 twist in it for no charge.

Would someone have the time do a quick check of there seat belt and see if there is a 1/2 twist in it from the factory.

Cheers

Howiee,

Did the kit you purchased include the mounting hardware as well? Bolts, washers, ect?

Thanks for the post!

Replaced both front seat belts and installed a lap belt to the rear yesterday. All went well. Did not even have to pull the panels completely off to install the new retractors.

I'm still waiting to get mine back from SeatbeltPlanet. They aren't the fastest it would seem.

howiee,

My '87 belts are original and they have the 1/2 twist. When I get around to replacing them I will try to eliminate that twist. It sounds like I will start with the guys at Seat Belt Planet.

I'm installing my SBP kit now and I too have the half twist. I guess it's just the way it is.....

Seems backwards however...

The half twist is how Porsche made them for our cars but it does seem a little strange to me too. Either way they are isnstalled and I am very happy with them.
BTW, love the orange.

Thanks Howiee,

According the Steve at Seat Belt Planet these are the first orange belts he's made for a 911.

Here are some more details on the install
