Thanks. A little bit of catching up, but a good opportunity for a good time for father and son. You know 15 year old boys aren't the best communicators, so a week on a road trip together give us the time and opportunity to have a good time together and talk a bit. His twin sister is the total opposite, and totally communicate everything and he sort of disappear in the chatter. Last year we went to the Essen Techno Classica for a few days, but road trips are the best form of "togetherness" I think. I'm so looking forward to this trip

Yeah, I'll bring some cash, but fortunately, my bank card work in every cash machine and most any shop in Europe. Banking is actually working pretty good in Europe....

I have now assembled what will be my emergency travel kit. Its funny, but when you start to think about what to bring, you end up thinking about everything that can go wrong instedad of looking forward to the trip. But, I've been on roadtrips before when something went broke, and I hate that helpless feeling when I realized I wasn't prepared. Most of the time we will drive in areas were towns and cities are everywhere, but we're also going up in the Alps where there is less help to find.
So, I have buttoned up this kit that I think will cover most eventualities, without going totally overboard. Ok, so I tossed in a few extra sockets (not in the pics), but it all fits neatly into a little bag. I liked the idea of a steel wire coat hanger. That thick steel wire can be used for a lot of fixi'n Someone mentioned a big plastic bag to pack up a dirty wheel in, in case of having to put the emergency wheel on. I then realized that with my new lolipop seats I have nowhere to put the tire. There is no way I could get that tire into the back seat. I suppose I could squeeze my son in the back for a short ride, but it would be hard even for him to get back there. So I bought an MC cargo net so that I could strap the weel to the whale tale. The entire kit packs up nicely, and it all fits in the smugglers box with room to spare. Fuses, 1 quart of oil and a tiny multimeter is not in the picture. Fuelpump relay will be purchased on Monday. BTW, what do you guys think is best; Flat Tire Fix on a can, or a proper tire repair kit? I was undecisive, and ended up with the foam can.... ![]() Buttons up nicely ![]() It all fits in the smugglers box, with room for a few more items. ![]() Spare fuel strapped to the x-bar ![]() You can't even see its there, and "plenty" of space for a little bit of traveling luggage ![]() Test fitting the wheel to the rear decklid. It all worked out nicely.

Not sure I would log around a spare tire to start with but on top of the Whale Tail, I would think that would restrict the air flow to the engine.

Carrying your wheel on the lid like that is a sure fire way to make sure the cops stop you every five miles in Germany. Bring an auto club card and leave the wheel

No no, I'm NOT bringing a spare wheel!
In case I have a flat that I'm unable to fix at the roadside, and have to use the emergency spare wheel, I need a way to transport the wheel to the nearest tire shop. *That could be many miles depending on where I am at the time. With my Lolipop seats, there is very limted access to the back seats for poeple and stuff like a wheel, so this is the only way to transport a wheel.

We're here:
After two days on the road, we are in Zuffenhausen. The old Turbo has had the opportunity to stretch her legs a little, and drive as she was made to be driven. We haven't gone all crazy on the autobahn, but we were doing 130 mph for a short while. Mostly we cruise around 90 or 100, and the 35 year old car feel right at home at that speed. The "new" engine has been smooth running, and use no more oil than expected. Its a grat feeling to load 1 bar of boost in fourth gear at 90 mph. But still, at 100 mph there are Audis and Beemers passing us. We've had much rain for periods of the trip, and without any ABS, stability control or any other electronic helping devices, I don't want to risk anything. I take it easy on the wet. Werk I were Ferdinan Porsche originally had his design office befor the war. After returning from Gmund after the war, this was alsoss ocr the lovation of the design teams etc, and at Werk II across the streat they had the factory when they started producing cars. ![]() Werk II: The new assembly building. Down an to the right, you can barely see the brick buildings were Porsche had their old factory. Today, the buildings are undre special restrictions, so they cant be torn down or modified. This is were Porsche lined up 25 Porsche 917's in the sixties to present them to FIA. Ferrari was cheating, and while they transported the FIA representatives from location to location, they moved the cars as well so FIA was inspecting the same cars over on over. Porsche was forced to display all of them at once before they could go racing with the 917 ![]()

Before we left Norway, I wrote to the Museum and asked for a factory tour. Got a reply from them while in transit, and we had a booking for a tour of the factory this morning at 10.
I really enjoyed the tour, but two hours was way too short. I could easily have spent the entire day in there. NO photographing allowed unfortunately, and we had to turn in cell phones and cameras before the tour. The Zuffenhausen plant is building all the engines /the heart of a Porsche has to come from Stuttgart) and all the sports cars. That is the 911, 918 Spyder (2-3 cars per day) and Boxter an Cayman. Here are some pictures from the Museum: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Later that same day, we stopped by the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart as well. A very nice museum, and some what bigger than the Porsche museum. At 6 PM, we were well satisfied with museums and cars.....
