Thinking about sellingmy almost finished project
I'm contemplating selling my almost finished project. Problem is that I run two businesses and I just don't know how much longer it will take to finish because of time costraints. My reason for posting this is because I'd like to get an idea as to the value of it in this stage of the restoration. I think that someone could finish it (I know I could) for another $3K-$5K.
Not pictured anywhere are the wheels, which are 16X8 & 7 Fuchs, that are being finished in an RS style, but with the colors of the car itself (silver, with black metallic flower). Also, the door tops, and tops for the rear quarters are being done in black suede. The dash was being done in suede as well, but my interior guy "lost" it. There is also an appbiz rs carpet kit included along with a brand new auto power rollbar that has been powder coated in silver/grey to match the tach which was refinished by North Hollywood speedometer. The speedo was refinished by them as well. It was recalibrated to show 180 MPH, and reset to "0" miles. There is a bubble on the paint in the roof, and my paint guy (he's a friend and will do it) told me he'd take care of it. The decklid is on the car now, and the deck lid grill is painted the same color as the valance. I have all the parts that came with the car to put it back together. Some of the parts that need to be purchased are: Steering wheel, RS door panels, Headliner, tires, headers, muffler, seats, misc hardware (nuts, bolts, etc.), new windshield. I coud go over the whole thing and provide a more detailed list for serious buyers. All the seals for the windows, body parts, etc. are there. The engine was redone by Vertex auto in miami, and it runs awesome, although since I don't have the exhaust, I ran it for less than a minute. Tranny was not redone as it was fine, but it needs to be cleaned up to match the engine. This car will look spectacular once it's done, and if the estimates I get are too low, it will sit there until I do finish it. It's not a money thing, it's a "the car is sitting on my lift and I need the space for my Porsche parts business (Disclaimer - not trying to take business from Wayne, but I do sell new parts as well as used one's. Please buy your new parts from our host, ad your used one's from me ![]() Either way, I'm looking for some price opinions. I know that the marketplace is probably the best area for this post, but I feel that there's better advice on this section of our forum (not just people poking fun at/picking on some guy that goes by PML, which by the way, does anybody know what's up with that?!?) The links below show a thread on this forum, and some more pics in photobucket. Please note that some of the pics in photobucket aren't of my car, just ideas I saw and put in that album for some reason or the other (in other words, that's not me standing by, nor did I make that awesome rotisserie). If people feel that they need more pics to establish a value, or are seriously interested in the car, please feel free to ask for the specific areas you want pictured, and I'll be happy to oblige. On a side note, if you are going to post an opinon of value, please keep it real. Don't post some lowball number. Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but people actually refer to this forum to set values for items they are considering purchasing (I know I have), and sellers can get hurt by some members that, for lack of better words, speak for the sake of speaking. There's a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum, and I'd like to hear from them. Would also take a running 911 as partial trade. I know that puts me right back in the "I need space" category, but I'm sure if anyone understands, it's my fellow Pelicans ![]() Thanks and have a happy and safe Independence Day! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/791116-building-my-1981-sc.html 1981 Porsche 911SC Restoration Photos by otif07 | Photobucket

I'd say a decent pair would cost $600-$750, depending on the sellers willingness to sell.

Because the car will not be stock, even with the fresh paint and rebuild, I don't know how you're going to get $30k out of the deal. And the suede thing is going to turn some folks off. Which limits the market, which reduces the potential sale price.
The car looks great, don't get me wrong. But with the stuff that need to be done to it yet, I think you're looking at about $28k ask, take no less than $25k. You could get a lot more if you stuck with an "as original" look. Maybe in the mid- to upper thirties. |

Thanks for the input... As far as the wheels are concerned, I didn't think they would go for that much. I guess I was comparing it to some 15X8's I had that didn't sell for as much as I thought they would. Wrong comparo. Maybe I'll throw another set of nice one's on my car and sell the 16X8 & 16X7
![]() Even my wife thinks I should finish it! When does that happen?!? Maybe I'll just finish the dang thing! I need a bigger warehouse! Quote:

To be honest, I don't understand why you'd want to sell it. It's a thing of beauty, esp. when it's done. |

I recommend finishing it, even if it takes you a couple years to do so (especially with the wife behind you). The feeling of accomplishment when done is second to none. This is the best way to maximize payback on your investment if you choose to sell (and prices on complete cars are only going up at the moment).

Its always difficult to sell a project, and I have to say I'm somewhat confused by what the vision for the car is. To me not enough details about what Vertex did to the motor. I don't really get the feel of the car. I think it would help if you outline how you saw the car, so prospective buyer could see if they share that vision. One good thing about the car is that with the center fill done to me its crying out to be backdated. I'm not a big fan of the black and grey but I really like the original black metallic, and I think you could source some interior parts, perhaps you could find an out of the ordinary color like the SVD cars, that works with the met black.
Best of luck with whatever you choose but my 2c is take a step back and fall in love with the project all over again and see where you end up in a year or so.

SilberUrS6, Hnichols, fanaudical, msort81;
Thanks for all the input... I think I just needed that nudge, I've only walked away from one project and I have regretted it ever since. Turned out it was a good thing as it was a 928. I followed the thread of the guy that bought it, and man did that car need work, but I hated walking away. Msort81, to answer a few of your questions, the vision was to build a hot rod(ish) looking car with the visual elements of a hot rod (rollbar, proper seats, center fill gas kit, RS style wheels, RS carpet kit, RS door panels), but all the while keeping it as much of an SC as possible to not hurt the cars value with too many modifications. That leads me to the engine, which had a top end rebuild, and new (new to me - good used set) pistons and cylinders. I basically wanted to build a car, that, if desired, in the future could be returned to stock condition with minimal effort. The only element that I went a bit overboard with was deleting the sunroof, but I couldn't resist ![]() I agree with the comment (don't remember who said it) of the suede interior bits, but I went with it because I really like the look. As I do a lot of the stuff myself, I viewed it as simple to bring back, although I realize not everyone would do it themselves. At the end of the day, you are all right. It is difficult to sell as a project, and it will be a really nice car once it's finished. Hopefully my next posting will have an update on the re-commencement of work! Thanks to all!
