Need Porsche Anti-defamation League!!

Here's today's Seattle Times editorial, further reinforcing the popular view of the Porsche driver as a___ole:

Porsches, potholes and patriots | Opinion | The Seattle Times

Sheesh!!
I agree..... with the article. However, the author could just as easily have substituted any number of high end vehicles as symbolic of those who feel/are entitled. YMMV.

Originally in the New York times.....what do you expect? redistribution of wealth.

Joe the plumber was so right when he busted Obama. Now look where we are!

I earned my money the hard way. I have a Porsche yup, and other cars. My wonderful wife and I raised and college educated 4 kids, and now have 10 wonderful grandkids.

I earned my little piece of paradise the the Santa Monica Mountains and with hard work and long hours. I pay lots of taxes and what do I get back?

Yesterday my wonderful wife and I are headed to the 4th of July parade in Santa Monica.......a highway patrolman who earns $100,000 plus and over time and will get a 100% pension at 20 years........with his radar run 1/4 mile from my driveway on a 45 MPH highway that was 55 for 50 years shooting me.......and I was the only one on the road ,........all for that for extra revenue, and the quotas they don't have.

1 mile later the LA Sheriff doing the same thing I have very good radar detector so I was safe......need the detectors our here.

A few minutes later on Pacific coast highway in Malibu with very light traffic and a 4 lane road with a 45 MPH limit. I get hit by a MC cop with laser. I was doing under the 45 because I know they are there all the time. NO safety issue here.......just a $400 ticket looking to be written. so within 5 miles early on a wonderful 4th of July AM this veteran, going to celebrate the 4th with his children and grand children is accosted 3 times in his Porsche by money hungry cops......not safety seeking cops. Money hungry cops who see the people who pay their salaries are the enemy as their bosses push them for more tickets.

You get back a safe neighborhood and one of the best standards of living in the world. I'm sure you did work hard for all your accomplishments, but the infrastructure and legal framework you needed to do so are paid for by taxes. Anyone who has ever accomplished anything did so, first and foremost, because the opportunity was there. A person born in a poor country is very unlikely to achieve great success not because they don't work hard but because they don't have the opportunity to do so. Believe me, subsistence farmers in sub-Saharan Africa don't get weekends off. They don't own Porsches either! So while we'd all like to pay less in taxes and see governments being more efficient, it's important to appreciate how lucky we truly are to live in rich countries and own cool cars. And if you think taxes are high in the USA, don't move to Canada! Ha ha!

From the article:

Three blocks later, Babbitt, as we’ll call him, swerves to avoid one pothole and lands in another. There’s a sickening thud. With a sinking heart, Babbitt gets out to examine the damage.

Tie rods maybe?

It's "sour grapes". Lots of people who don't understand what Porsche ownership is about will disrespect those who do. Those of us who do appreciate the technology, engineering and quality will just have to put up with it.

Author sounds like he's implying that extra gas tax could fix the roads. I tend to agree to a point. Most areas of the US have ultra cheap gas.

We have loads of extra tax on gas here. It's supposed to be for road maintenance.

It gets dumped into general revenue, and they rarely do anything with the roads.

It's awesome when you see signs that say: "Slow down. Frost Heaves Ahead." .... In the middle of July. (They didn't forget to take the signs down)

Use to be called Miller High Life Time

Yes, California is a wonderful place, but I am not willing to pay more taxes to police, fire, government workers, and school teachers making six figures and no one is telling me too. That's why as a retired old man I choose to live in a cheap state...

Today people are getting very large pensions in the public sector paid by John Q Public......yep the American taxpayer....pension from private companies is their business.... but to come after the tax payer every time is out of control in states like CA, IL, NY...that's why Texas is doing so well...but you CA people stay there please, and do not rock the boat...just pay the piper....remember you got the weather over us...

I'm tie rod already.

I'm thinking 15 inch rims, higher ground clearance and some good M&S tires ought to prevent these kinds of problems. Skid plates should not be needed, except for true off road excursions. Francis Tuthill should have most of the stuff you need right on the shelf. If it's good enough for the Dakar Classic, it should work on our local roads...

I spent many years living and working in Canada, so I know what you mean. As a matter of fact my ancestors landed in Boucherville PQ in 1696. My grandfather moved to New England in the 1930s for the USA opportunity.

and I am not a checkbook Porsche owner. I restored my car and I know it in and out.
