G50 - How much residue is normal on the drain plug?
I have 1700 miles on my re-assembled G50. I removed reverse and fifth to do a reseal while I was doing my motor.
I'm using Mobil Delvac in it and it shifts much better now than it did before. The thing that is bothering me is that I now have a distinct gear whine when cruising in 5th. It occurs when there is little to no torque being applied, and becomes almost inaudible when you get back on the throttle. It is there in 4th as well, but to a much less degree. I'm currently doing an oil change and a valve adjustment, so I figured I would drain the tranny as well and see if there were any deposits on the drain plug magnet. I found a clump of very fine dark grey deposits on the magnet that amounted to the size of the head of a Q-Tip. It basically spread out like paste, no grit at all. Curious what peoples thoughts are on this kind of drain plug deposit on a G50 with 1700 miles on it since it was reassembled? Thanks

I don't have an answer for you, but my G50 was rebuilt last year as and I have just started hearing a bit of a whine in 4th and 5th. Similar mileage to yours I think. Perhaps a little more, but I would need to check my records.
Curious to hear what people's thoughts are on this. |
