To twin or not to twin

The original plan was single plug, 964 cams and some induction changes.

But I've spent lots of time reading about 3.4 conversions and there seems to be concerns about detonation damage with compression ratios above 9.8:1- especially with the relative low octane gas I have locally (91, max 93). The MM pistons are supposed to help....Gliding serpent, do you have higher octane gas where you are?

Anyway, the new plan is to twin plug. Plan is still fluid, but probably MSD ignition boxes, JB racing distributor. Details to follow.

I went cup style airbox, 66mm throttle body, 964 cams, 9.8:1 single plug 3.4L max moritz pistons, SSI's. Got the SSI's before I opted 3.4, so might replace them with larger headers. Will see.
i have a 3.2 twin plug with euro pistons. ive been thinking about 3.4 with 964 cams or something equivalent that will give me more torque as well as an elevated red line roughly 7000-7200 with a chip.

im curious if you have dyno your motor? any idea whats the output?

I'm curious about this too. I see the rears were welded on but I'd like to know where they came from and also if the fronts are a one piece longhood fender with an ST flare or is it a standard narrow body longhood fender with an ST flare added to it.

I'm sorry

I don't know where early911 sourced the metal ST flares...I'll ask the builder (Nick Moss)

Liking what you've done so far, but wondering why you're getting this done in the UK - is there no one local who can do this?

Plus I think your engine is crying out for a heater backdate to get rid of the engine blower - only my 2 cents of course.

Why the UK?

Shirish

There aren't a lot of shops in the US that do what I think of as quality backdate/outlaw conversions. TRE in California does some nice stuff- but they seem mostly to do fiberglass and I wanted steel. Flatsix (Bloomington MN) does really, really great work- I just didn't know about them when I started this build.

There are, I'm sure lots and lots of other great shops that do this too that I just don't know abou.

I'm purposely excluding Singer who does just silly silly great cars- but they are in a different stratosphere of both build quality and cost.

Obviously there are some guys who have done FANTASTIC cars in there own garages (guys like Chris Nielsen come to mind), but I do not have that kind of time, tools or, most importantly, skill.

For whatever reason- the UK seems to have some shops that do a lot of this type of thing (Autofarm, Early911, etc). I just really like some of Nick Moss's previous backdates and decided the shipping costs would be a relatively small fraction of the total.

That's fair enough - I didn't realise the ST steel work was relatively rare your side of the pond. I too have seen some great work from Nick and his team over the years, the 2.7 MFI Carrera they did recently was mind blowing (had a mind blowing budget to suit too). Good luck with it

Nice. Is that a 964 intake as well?

Looks like a painted or otherwise coated 3.2 intake. Nice looking ride.

GREEN: Nissan Olive Green 597
WHITE: Ford Ermine White
ORANGE: RAL 2008 Hellrot orange

Well, that should of been a Porsche color...there was a Mercedes color from the 50's- 60's that was similar...I've seen it on 190 SL's and one 300 SL.

I missed your earlier question. 91 is the best we have for gas, thus max moritz. It is designed for reliable use of 3.4l and 9.8:1 comp ratio on 91 gas. I am sure you can go higher, but the wedge dome design makes it safe. Not designed for twin plug however.

I have yet to dyno my car as my build was a bit delayed this year. This winter i am looking at intake, possibly exhaust. I am installing Sal Carcellers MAF/dme/modern injectors system. You appear to have a Maf. Which one?

What compression ratio are your pistons? With twin plugging, you should be able to go quite high. did you think about more agressive cams? Who is doing your engine.

Beautiful build by the way.
