Might be Wine Red. I've never seen a paint code like that. Can't answer any of your other questions unless I see the car in person.

whatever it is..i like it.

Porsche color codes ive seen aren't that long, usually 3 or 4 digits, I could be wrong.
you may end up having to get a Porsche Certificate. If you haven't already, post over on the Paint and Bodywork section. 962 may have an answer.

I agree, Aubergine, which by the way is another name for Eggplant.

It has definitely been repainted as you can see by the striker just below the tag which was not removed or taped-up

The tag as pictured is in the wrong locations and thus not factory to the car. It is on the lock post. Porsche places these on the front door jamb w/a rivet in each corner.

Looks more like a vin tag but this would also be an odd vin #

Doubt that a Porsche dealership could help.. think you should go by a paint supply store and let them scope/photo the color. They can then tell you the mixture and possibly a code or origin.

I don't think its Aubergine as it has too much brown in it. Color is pretty though..

I have a 944 that was originally a very very similar if not the same color. My car has been repainted Guards Red but the aubergine color is still very present in the engine bay, under carpets etc and is almost identical to what you have here. Maybe they were trying to emulate a factory color.

Regards
Dave

Any chance this car spent time in Florida? Has it been reported stolen and given a new VIN?

What I was thinking.. looks like a State re-vin tag.

Check the numbers on the tub just above the gas tank and compare.. as you may not have one on the windshield post.
