Brake caliper question
Has anyone put a set of factory 993 brake calipers (front and rear) on their older 911 like mine ('75 with A Calipers)?
How much work is involved? Thanks! |

That setup is very front biased for a non ABS car. The fronts are easy though as they are already setup for radial mount, so you only need the adaptors for the 911 struts. Use them w/ either 304x32 930 rotors or 322x32 993tt rotors and appropriate hats(be sure to get the correct strut adaptor as each rotor requires a different adaptor)
The rears are more of a problem because they are set up for a 299x24 rotor. If they are used with a Carrera rotor there will be pad overhang at the periphery of the rotor(not good). They will allso need modification to fit on the better, wider 309x32 930 rear rotor and you still have the bias issue. Another choice for the rear is the rear C4S caliper which is already setup for the 28mm rotors(but will still have a bias issue). The best choice, though somewhat rare is the 3.3 964T rear rotor. It is setup for the 28mm wide rotor and has 30/34 pistons which will give stock 911 bias when used with the 993 fronts. The mods to fit to the rear of a 911 are minor for use w/ a 309x28 rotor.

Bill, thanks a lot for the info. I came across a set of 993 calipers for dirt cheap so I was wondering if I should pick them up.
Thanks! |
