I feel sick to my stomach over that- oh man I'm glad you walked away.
I'm assuming the cars were a total loss?

Schiut gets real when you hear the individual crying out in pain.

Thank God they're alright.

I may be wrong but it didn't appear like the driver was trying to restart the car ? Easy to Monday morning QB but I would think your first thought would be get out of the racing line, collect your thoughts over in the grassy area. It was just a slow soft spin but I hope both drivers are OK.

if you look at 1:28 the driver tries to start the car 3 times. You can hear it crank and watch the tach move.

If you run the video with sound, you clearly hear him attempting to start the car right up to the point of impact as well as his head movements looking towards inbound track traffic.

He was doing his best to get going again. Hope everyone is ok in the long run. Injuries can surface after a period if time after being involved in such a blunt force incident.

Safety gear does work!!!!!!

Glad you're ok!

No red flag? Our track is equipped with warning lights and all our track days have marshals with flags to prevent such incidents.. ouch

Big track like Texas World Speedway is difficult to have corner workers at each and every location for a club race. Our local Autobahn CC road course track in Joliet IL is often missing corner workers at two of the eight shelters on the south track. A much bigger track like the Texas "roval" probably has much more spacing between stations and some un-manned stations too?

Hope everybody's OK. That was a NASTY incident.

I see no reason for that spin to be a red flag. Should have been a local single waving yellow

Corner workers were there waving double yellows, if a driver never looks at them it does not do any good.
DE lessons 101: Pay attention to the corner workers....

Well from the camera viewpoint (just out of view to the right of screen where car came to a stop) I couldn't tell if workers were at that station and waving the yellows.

Agree 100% that yellows are only as good as the dudes driving, who are expected to obey them. Fellas in a race group should have a bit more situational awareness than DE peeps. It would seem that the cars leading the eventual crash car created a visual screen. You can see how the crash car and its following roadster sort of pop into view from behind the group as they approach the stalled car.

I also think the text at the end of the video should say something to the effect of here's-why-having-a-HANS-is-a-good-idea. Saying "Wear your HANS" implies that some drivers have them and choose not to wear them?

Yep his head did go forward to start but that still doesn't change the fact that his head snapped sideways afterwards. Play & pause the video during the slow motion portion and watch how far his entire body moves to the right inside the car. Wow.........

The windshield definitely flies out in one big piece when not glued into the gasket & frame, or not retained by windshield hold-down tabs! I can't tell for sure but it looks like that windshield had no retaining tabs. Not sure how effective the tabs would be but they are required for specifically this reason.

I wonder what happened to the roadster that was trailing the battering ram car. It was following right behind the incoming car almost right in its tracks like it was playing follow the leader.

Guys, DO NOT let your wife see this video or she'll fight you tooth & nail to never drive your car on the track again. An incident like that is one of a driver's and significant other's worst fears.

The alfa should have chosen the grass instead of trying the brakes.
This corner has a ridiculous amount of grass, flat, nothing to hit, it should have been an easy decision.
I'm glad they're OK.

That's exactly why unless your car is on fire or you are off line and behind something, YOU STAY IN YOUR CAR! The group of on coming cars should have had much more situational awareness, the driver of the battering ram car had to have missed at least 1 flag station displaying a local yellow maybe up to 2 stations before reaching the stalled car on track. They should have been if they were not (which we don't get to see in the video) waving not standing yellows. I can think of at least one steward in the Southeast Region of the SCCA that if you had missed a waving yellow and caused a crash like that, lets just say you would not be coming back to play in his sandbox any time soon.

Glad they are ok. Easy to say but my limited experience is as follows: If you are going off and there's a lot of green, keep going off. Just suck it up, swallow your pride and send it. Don't stop until you are in a different zip code. Lot's of turns don't have this option but many do.
