Help with purchase

Howdy,

Whaddya think of this car? Owner wants $5,800 for it. It's a 1971 T with Zeniths and an aftermarket A/C, euro lenses, and a sport exaust and he claims that battery pan has been sectioned out and replaced. He also says there is no rust on the car. I don't have a pic of the engine compartment. Owner believes the car has only 102,000 by condition.

I only really care if it is a good car that I can work on and drive at the same time. Does anyone see anything that I should be aware of. What do you think of the price?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Do you have PPI numbers on the engine? How good does it run, much smoke or leaks? How god does it shift?

Any records?

Also, it looks like it has the wrong mirrors on it.

For this kind of money, it's probably a rough driver. It'll probably look so-so when you're up close. When sellers tell you that there's no rust, take it with a grain of salt. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's a crock. Bodywork from prior crash damage is a possibility and, if so, it might be done badly. A thorough check out by a shop experienced in these early cars is a must for both body and mechanical condition. Good luck and I hope you find a great car!

From the pics it appears to have been hit in the right rear and it looks as if there's a bit of rust along the inside drivers door (bottom well below hinge).

When I purchased my '73 a few years back I had PPI's done on three car and it was worth every cent. Good luck.

Hard to tell from pictures. Have you seen and driven the car. Price seems good if car is solid. I'm in San Diego too.

I don't mind a car that has been hit if I'm going to use it as a daily driver. My 944 looks great from 20 feet away, and I don't worry about it in a parking lot. My 911 will see lots of track time, so that's a different story as far as prior damage goes.
