Porsche wave?
Hi All,
I'm not new to Porsche, but I am new to my 1985 Carrera....I was out of the game for almost two years after I sold my 1966 912. But what happened to the Porsche wave? I drive around and see a fair amount of other Porsches and never get a wave back while I'm in my Carrera. Is it a new generation vs. old generation thing? I'm beginning to feel like an ********* waving at people that just ignore me. ![]() thanks, erik. |

I don't think they have enough hands. One on the shift knob, one busy texting, and the knees pressing the steering wheel to keep things straight : - )

It's not your problem.
"They" don't recognize your driving a Porsche.

Don't see many Porsche drivers flash their lights either.

It is a rare thing to get a wave from the modern Porsche drivers.
Attend a PCA Porsche Parade and you will see hundreds of Porsches and get all the waves you can handle. It is a fun event.

I got a massive wave and a honk from a guy in an immaculate VW Type 2. That's the best one I've ever gotten.
Modern Porsche drivers ignore me.

I equate it to this: Back in the day, Porsche had character. When you owned and drove a Porsche, you were in an elite group. You were one of the few... the proud. The car had sexy curves, and was instantly recognizable among all the square shaped american cars.
Now, I feel that it is not like that anymore. The newer offerings from Porsche are in their own rights are AMAZING cars (GT3RS for example), but they look so much like most of the other cars out there. To me, they have lost their sexiness... Also, I feel that the owner of a new Porsche does not have the same experience, that we once had as an owner of the older cars. Just my .02 Dont get me wrong, there are PLENTY of owners of new Porsches who are fanantics, but to me... its just not the same thing...... Say bye-bye to the wave.... to the headlight flashes. Its a different world out there now!!!

They are too common. I don't usually wave but if I do it is for an early car.

I generally get more waves from just older sports cars people (who appreciate the car) than I do from any newer Porsche folks. Rarely get the lights flashed at me either.
I don't care, I still enjoy my Pcar. |

Lights and a wave from me! Then again...I'm an absolutely cheerful dork - LOL!
Older air cooled cars usually respond in kind. The newer water pumpers, not so much and I have gotten exactly ONE wave back from a boxster driver. Won't stop me from lights/wave. Can't make me stop being happy when I drive my car. angela

...when I lived in northern California, and had my '66 912, we flicked lights more often than not...then I moved to the LA area, and its more of the wave down here, but only from air-cooled people - never from the newer Porsche people...either they don't know my 930 is a Porsche or they just know theirs is a boxster or a cayenne or a cayman...there's no denying we share something sticky, as I've always been acknowledged by the 60's and 70's and 80's rides...thanks for that!!!

The reality is people who own these older cars are more enthusiastic about the ownership experience, and are generally "car people".
A lot of people who buy the newer ones were only introduced to the brand as a luxury/aspirational brand. So they do not have the same enthusiasm. |

I wave regardless because I also am a cheerful dork who hits his windshield more often than not when waving. I can't help but be happy when I am in my car. Of course my wife always says, what are you waving at? She just doesn't get it!!
