New Leather Seat covers for 3.2 - question?

Just received my new leather seat covers for my comfort seats in my 89' 3.2. They look great!

My question is about the foam. I see to replace both is 500 bucks or more on line. My current seat foam is ok, though it sags in the drivers; 90k miles and 25 years is understandable. Has anyone ran into this issue, could a good Auto Upholstery place do the job right without me having to fork out 600 bucks?

Any idea would be helpful

Merry Christmas to all of you,

Todd

My seats were torn, flat, and hard. I had an upholstery guy order covers from GAHH for me, since he got a discount, and he put them on. The total price was little more than what I would have paid just for the covers. The covers had the ridges or pleats or whatever they're called, so the upholstery guy just steamed the old foam back to shape, and repaired a torn piece of foam. My seats look like factory new, and he didn't charge any extra for the steaming/repairing of the foam. I have a 3.2 as well.

AKA a real 911. But not looking to stir up trouble.

I just had some stitching repair done on mine. Upholstery guy (his worked-on car won 1st place in the 95 PB Concours) said the foam was toast. He threw some fluff in there to support the bolsters but job was just for the stitching.

I have like new 3.2 seats on the shelf but if I want the original look.............

Thanks, I already paid 2k for Porsche Classic in Zuffenhausen to do the leather. No going back now - They even changed the code to Full Leather under my Vin!

Shame of it was, the leather was 98% - the man who owned it for 20 years never drove it and and never conditioned the leather, a garage queen with no love - the seams split dryness on the passenger side, just brittle leather like an old saddle with no use.

That's kind of a game changer as far as wanna-be contributors.

I bet they look profoundly nice. They are such beautiful seats to begin with.

Reading your first post again, I remember looking at world Upholstery in the 90's for the foam. It was painful $$ back then. Went with a local place and they layered more foam on the bolsters. OK for a couple of years. Then smooshy again.

140F interior temps are normal in the sun. Mind you, mine was a southern car and the foam was played out long before it became the garage queen it has been since I moved to Ohio around 2001. I am also 250lbs. A fat ass takes a toll as well.

I would not fret.

Karl, I refuse to sew anything for a Midwest accented, tub-o-fun-lard that admits to owning a Tar-gag!!!

And regarding that "fluff is batting" business; thou speakest from experience, kind sir?!?!?! I thought it was "catching"

The dude that did the interior of this 95 best of show car did my seat for $150.

Passing on the Rono was ok this one time. You do know that Ronnie did all the stitching for the movie "The Human Centipede"

Sold at circle Porsche/Audi in Long Beach in 86-89. the Porsche lot. My car still smells like the 911's of that time when the heat is on, or the top on on a sunny day - you know the smell? Thought my new leather covers would, but it smells like leather... I am too much a romantic...

It's distinct.

One more reason why I didn't let mine go even after the face plant into a tree just a month ago or so. It sniffs "correct" to this day.

Never understood the chip guards and tails on a 3.2. I use to sell the "Turbo Look" when new, adds a lot of weight to the already dressed out 911 3.2, yes, better brakes and the lot, but I do not see the point other then wish I was a 930? I feel chip guards ruin the lines of a non-turbo, and the 930 is in my mind a different 911. Though I would love a 930 G50 from 1989.

I wonder if the passenger seat foam is the same as the drivers? Why not really. Maybe just change the pass to drivers foam and use it till it breaks down.
