I didnt realize they used 911's int eh 1980's as Police cars in europe. I thought the BMW e28 was the choice

Porsche has supplied police cars since the early 50s. They were used to catch smugglers.

I know this was true in the past, prior to the 1980's, and I lived in Europe in 1989 for 6 months, never seen a porsche police car in either Austria or Italy

Over here (the Netherlands) the rijkpolitie (highway patrol) used 911 for quite some time (365 uptil 964 I think, even 914's)

Why targas as the choice and not coupes?

I lived in Stuttgart in the late 70's and it was fairly common to see Polizei in a 911

I read it was so one cop could drive, the other stand up to re-direct traffic.

911 was used for highway duties because of cooling issues.

Anyone want to guess what would happen if you drowe in reverse for 5 mls on a hot summer day in a water cooled car from the 60-80es?
