Laurance, my credentials are impeccable sir. I'm insulted by your insinuation. I was just covering all the bases. I would never do a transaction sight unseen, by the way. Greed in this market is the culprit. If a deal is too good to be true, it usually is. Good day to you.

I've got an early 1965 911 for sale ... Cheap!?

Rich, I hear that Tim's hound gave you a thorough sniff test and reported finding nothing untoward (he has been known to bend the truff, from time to time, though)!

Sorry if this was already covered...but I did read through the entire thread...twice. How does the OP know the "crime" took place in Florida since "Richard Mosely" could be anywhere. I think it would be relatively easy to find out what state the fraudster opened up his account. I would think that state is where you need to focus on. Also, have you checked if the funds are still in the receiving account? Probably not but doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank you Ron, I was hoping I had at least one acquaintance that would vouch for me. Getting to be fewer and fewer these days. Yes the hound has had his snout up,my derrière a time or two. Not at all unpleasant, as some would assume.

@jbryan - I was just trying to provide some information to the guy who got scammed. No opinion if real or not. I later read that the poster was just done with the ordeal but me, I would be tracking that guy down by any means possible. No, I am not his target. Quite the contrary.

tdw28210 had a key suggestion for any online purchase: A reverse image search.

Save this link: https://www.google.com/imghp?sbi=1 Just copy the image location of any image and it will show you most anywhere that image can be found on the web even if it is resized.
Another reverse search is https://www.tineye.com/. It works the same way.

I'm not sure why it didn't pop for tdw28210 via Google as I show the car for sale right now in Cadillac Michigan. http://www.fossilcars.com/porsche/912/670180 and http://cars.oodle.com/detail/1968-porsche-912-targa/3849532884/?cm_mmc=OODLE_PREVIEW-_-www-_-NA-_-NA

Neither of those ads seems to list the VIN number which seems odd for a car sales website. I wonder what that car's VIN is...

Ok, here is a YouTube video of the car that they took the images from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO7ogC_-N8g
In that video's description they list the VIN as 12870236 so they obviously just changed the last digit to a "3". That video is from http://www.motoexotica.com in Saint Louis Missouri and was posted in September. They no longer have it in their inventory so I suspect it was sold to the place in Michigan to be flipped.

I concur. Although we don't necessarily play nice all the time Lawrence is a real person and got the short end of the stick on this deal and I hate seeing it happen. I sincerely hope there is some form of recourse to make things right. On the other side of things, it's not like he doesn't have another 912 to occupy his time.

This is an interesting question. Not sure on the "where" of the crime.

Talked to a friend that works for BofA doing federal compliance and her suggestion with dealing with the bank is that you have to start by getting an "Affidavit of fraud" from a law enforcement agency. Then you can start getting help. Your assertion that you were wronged isn't enough.
This will not get the transfer reversed. As explained by her, The banks action did not involve any fraud. You asked for the money to be moved and they performed that action. The fraud was done by the receiver when they took the money out and did not deliver the goods which is obviously outside the banks area of responsibility.
The only way the bank has any responsibility is if the account was initially opened fraudulently and the bank failed in their due diligence to determine the valid identity of the account holder. In other words if the account holder is bogus and they did their mandated checks such as required ID you get nothing. If they didn't correctly get proof of ID then you might have a remedy there as they do have a responsibility to have accounts only for valid account holders.

The end all is still going to be to find out the account holder info, see if you can track where the money went, and track where the person went.

What are the chances the money is still even in the account? I doubt the account even exists anymore.

I have bought two cars from far away. Once 1000 miles and once 780 miles. In both instances I had a local Porsche mechanic do a PPI. Both mechanics I checked out here and Rennlist. I also checked out the sellers on LinkedIn, where they both had profiles. In the high end wrist watch community they have a saying "buy the seller".

I spent the airfare to fly to have final inspection. I then wired funds on one and presented a cashiers check in the other. If in in either instance it was not how it appeared, it would be money well spent to fly home. I had one local PPI in Houston that was a disaster, but the best $400 I ever spent. Both out of town purchases worked out great and I had a great drive home.

Last year I went to San Diego with a friend/client to buy a Carrera GT because I know a thing or two about them. Once we got there the car was in a state of disrepair. The car had been left out in the elements for so long all the anodizing was faded and some of the carbon bodywork was beginning to crack. The car had been in a rear end collision and bandaged back together. None of this was disclosed prior to us seeing the car. The car was also subject to seizure by the FBI once the whole story came out and this was why it was for sale. Quite a disappointment really but considering my friend was ready to buy the car it was money well spent.

Great question... I contacted uship and they won't take it down, even though I pointed them in the direction of the news articles of the conviction, sentencing, etc.

jittsl -1. stop payment immediately on the check (hopefully is not for a large amount). 2. Contact the authorities. 3. Contact me via PM as I have some "connected" friends who can "pay a visit to our friend"

The same ad has been posted on Craigslist in Eastern Kentucky... post id: 4897325558. Now everyone can see exactly what I saw, and what jittsl saw. If the guy is tracking this thread or has any concern with anyone here, he's not showing it.
