What is this?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what this part is?
It's located on the back part of the engine tin.

Many thanks,

I'm guessing a makeshift plug. It's not OEM.

That looks like it may be plugging the hole that the hard line from the smog pump runs down through the tin.

Has the air injection system been removed?

good question, it's a US (California) 1973 911T mfi with matching numbers.
Don't know when the smog pump was introduced.
No trace of any air injection system at the moment.

No smog pump on a '73 T with MFI.

That's a hole for the up tube from the street sweeper on the back of the left heat box tubing heat to the intake on the 72/73 MFI snorkel.

It blocks the hole for this hose, as Bruce mentions. Pre-heats the intake air...
